I am not about to fall into the trap of getting too excited about preseason results. The New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals first-team offenses looked good, or their first-team defenses continued looking bad depending on who you ask. The Saints didn't have new acquisition Jeremy Shockey or old standby Deuce McAllister, so it will be exciting to see what firepower they add.

Even the play everyone in Saints Nation is talking about today, Robert Meachem's long TD, came from the Cards second team tackling as if he were a leper.  I'll believe Meachem was worth a first-round pick when I see him do this in the regular season. Besides which, wide receivers generally break out in their third season so we may have one more year before Meachem impresses.

The question I want answered is how many Dallas Cowboys fans purchased tickets to last night's game. To get tickets to the Arizona-Dallas game Oct. 12, fans had to purchase a ticket to last night's dress rehearsal. The Canaries are trying to get the number of Arizona fans at their home game to outnumber Dallas fans and that's the best Arizona brass has.

The Ft. Worth Star Telegram reports the Dallas Cowboys, badly in need of another wide receiver, are the latest team to suggest to Joe Horn that he no longer fits that definition.  Since the Saints gave up on Horn three years ago he has averaged a paltry 525 yards a season. As emotional as it might have been for Saints fans to see a longtime productive receiver go, looks like New Orleans was dead on in its assessment of what Horn had left.

The Cowboys also are concerned about Horn's at times volatile personality. T.O. and The Artist Formerly Known as Pacman Jones are distractions, but they're distractions that can still change a game with one play. Joe Horn, not so much anymore. It looks there are two options for Horn: retirement or a long-term, big money deal with the Oakland Raiders. There's no washed up player Al Davis won't take a flyer on, right?

With just three weeks before the start of training camp, one of the team's biggest offensive threats isn't signed to a long-term deal. Wide receiver Marques Colston has emerged as one of the most promising young superstars in the game and is slated to earn $445,000 this year.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune expects a deal to get done and I agree. Attempts to fill the Saints' no. 2 receiver slot were pretty disastrous last year. Robert Meachem was hurt all season and about the only thing Devery Henderson caught in 2007 was a massive case of the dropsies. Reports now say Henderson may not even make the team. Add this to a running game filled with question marks and locking Colston up is a no-brainer.

Not that there's probably ever a downside to being seen in public with the lovely and talented Kim Kardashian, but my favorite guilty pleasure show TMZ caught a funny moment with the couple the other night. Reggie went to pay the valet but didn't have any cash on him. So, of course, he pulls some cash out of Kim's purse.

Everybody in the TMZ newsroom had a good laugh. And hey, I'm pretty sure Reg ain't broke. Although let's be honest guys, could you ever fix your lips to say no to that - face? For those of you who have seen the sex tape (and I'm certainly not condoning that sort of thing) we know Kimmy's a freak in addition to her other attributes.

Sometimes statistics show us that perception and reality are two entirely different things. In the new soon-to-be hit movie Hancock, Hollywood's Will Smith plays a superhero with an image problem. In contrast, New Orleans' Will Smith looks to be getting away with a little somethin-somethin due to a cleaner image.

Bayou Buzz columnist Ed Staton notes that the defensive end has been hit with 14 defensive fouls, putting him in a dead heat with New England safety Rodney Harrison. Harrison has been voted the league's dirtiest player while Smith didn't a vote in that poll. Maybe he's hired Jason Bateman to do his PR.

The New Orleans Saints added two former members of the Arena League's New Orleans Voodoo Tuesday, signing center Rob Hunt and guard Isaiah Ross. Hunt has bounced around the NFL quite a bit. He is a former fifth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts. From there he spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons on the Denver Broncos practice squad and in the 2007 preseason was a Kansas City Chief. He played two seasons in the now defunct NFL Europe for the Berlin and Rhein franchises.

Ross has had some travels in pursuit of his NFL dream as well. He initially signed with San Diego Chargers in 2004 as a rookie and played for NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy in 2005. Ross displayed some versatility for the Voodoo in 08, catching 14 passes for 140 yards and five touchdowns. That's a better production rate than most of the Saints offensive players had last year. To make room for the new guys, New Orleans released offensive linemen Marquay Love and Carnell Stewart, both signed earlier in the offseason.

Hello one and all! I'm Brian Allen, a 33-year-old blogger originally from Minden, La. Like all Saints fans, I'm hoping the team can rebound from a subpar 2007 season. Here's to a healthy Deuce McAllister, a reinvigorated Drew Brees and a defense that could actually stop you or I from scoring.
