Joey A's Thanksgiving Day Recap

For those of you too busy with cooking dinner or crying babies to follow Thanksgiving’s slate of NFL action, I’m here with a quick recap. (You didn’t miss much.)

Tennessee Titans 47, Detroit Lions 10

The Titans logged 21 points in the first quarter off of two Chris Johnson runs and an interception return for a touchdown. They added two Lendale White rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, ending this game at halftime. Detroit was never in this game, as is expected from a team who is 0-12. Daunte Culpepper was average at best, but was never helped out by a Detroit running game that only totaled 23 yards. Tennessee ran over the Lions, racking up 292 yards on the ground. This blowout served as evidence for those who think Detroit should not be allowed to host games on Thanksgiving. Also, CBS’ Phil Simms should not be allowed to commentate on nationally televised games, period.

Dallas Cowboys 34, Seattle Seahawks 9

At halftime, Turkey Day’s second NFL contest was over as well, with the ‘Boys up 24-6. Seattle moved the ball well through the air, but turned the ball over twice and failed to convert on key third-downs. Mike Holmgren’s final season in Seattle is going to be an awful one. Dallas made a great showing on the holiday, even as they lost Marion Barber and DeMarcus Ware to injuries during the game. Both are expected to return shortly, which is great news for the surging Cowboys. Ware accounted for three of Dallas’ seven sacks of Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck and was given Fox’s lame turkey trophy. That needs to end too.

Philadelphia Eagles 48, Arizona Cardinals 20

Well, NFL Network’s nighttime broadcast was supposed to be the best game of the day. It was, but it was still over at halftime. Arizona actually got within two scores early in the fourth, but an Anquan Boldin fumble deep in their own territory closed the door on any comeback. Donovan McNabb responded well to last week’s benching with a 252-yards and 4 touchdown performance, fueling more speculation on his future in Philadelphia. In my opinion, nothing has changed. Philly will still miss the playoffs and McNabb probably won’t be back next year. Arizona has lost consecutive games against NFC East opponents, and has yet to prove they belong in the NFC elite conversation. Kurt Warner did not help his MVP-cause, throwing three interceptions.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
