The Titans and Rams each found their first wins, another team fell from the undefeated ranks and both New York squads lost key division games. By the way, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning are pretty good. *cough*Favre won*cough* Let’s wrap the week eight in the NFL with the Final Drive!
(5-2) Dallas Cowboys 38
(2-5) Seattle Seahawks 17
What’s with teams not wanting to tackle Cowboy receivers? Miles Austin and Sam Hurd have just been embarrassing defenders left and right. Tony Romo has put his team in a position to take first in the East following their next game, which comes against rival Philadelphia. In Seattle, injuries abound for the second straight year. There is no way this team could fight for a division title.
(4-3) Baltimore Ravens 30
(6-1) Denver Broncos 7
Wow, the chest-thumping Raven defense finally showed up. *Slow clapping* It’s about time you lived up to your massive hype and trash-talking. QB Joe Flacco was efficient and careful with the football against what has been a great Denver defense. While its only one loss, I’m thankful to see the Broncos come back down to earth. Still, they look in full control of the AFC West.
(7-0) Indianapolis Colts 18
(3-4) San Francisco 49ers 14
Peyton Manning: crusher of dreams, destroyer of worlds, spokesman of many. The Colts continued their undefeated ways against the Niners thanks to Manning’s 347 yards passing. Alex Smith performed well, but 14 points will never be enough to stop Manning’s men. Running back Joseph Addai’s 22-yard TD pass to Reggie Wayne was glorious. What isn’t pretty is San Fran’s play of late, having lost three of their last four. Mike might need to drop his pants again if his club is to take the division.
(3-4) Miami Dolphins 30
(4-4) New York Jets 25
I think the Jets need to talk a lot less and play a lot better. With Rex Ryan as their coach, they’ve become as talkative and self-aggrandizing as the Ravens, only without the years of solid play as credit. They started out great, but .500 is where most expected this team to hover for the season. In Miami, major props go to Tony Sparano for bringing his team around after some disappointing losses. They may not challenge for a wildcard spot, but they’ll spoil some post-season hopes.
(5-2) Philadelphia Eagles 40
(5-3) New York Giants 17
Um… so the Giants kinda suck right now. I can’t really explain it. After starting 5-0 they have dropped their last three, albeit to formidable opponents. This loss is obviously the worst, getting a forty-burger dropped on them by a division opponent who slides into first place with the win. The Eagles have rebounded nicely after that loss to “the team from Oakland that shall not be named” with big play after big play on offense. Must be nice to have that many weapons.
(7-1) Minnesota Vikings 38
(4-3) Green Bay Packers 26
So Favre has swept the Packers and has looked calm doing it. Great, now we’ll never hear the end of it. Green Bay just couldn’t mount enough offense to dig out of a 21 point third-quarter hole. They tried valiantly, every time it got close Favre and the Vikings would smoothly march down the field and shut the door. Aaron Rodgers got beat up yet again, you have to feel sorry for the guy. Adrian Peterson failed to reach 100 rushing yards for the sixth time this season and the Vikings are STILL 7-1. That’s what they needed Favre for. Now we wait and see how the aged one holds up down the season’s home stretch. Next week’s bye should help. Gr.
(7-0) New Orleans Saints 35
(4-3) Atlanta Falcons 27
Monday night’s Superdome thriller could have been a preview of an NFC divisional round playoff game. Matt Ryan uncharacteristically tossed three interceptions, which will likely never happen again. Michael Turner rushed for over 100 yards (151) in a loss, which has never happened before. Drew Brees hit eight different receivers for his 25 completions, utilizing the arsenal at his disposal. Reggie Bush had only five touches, making him an afterthought and a decoy in this Saints win. Sean Payton didn’t even need Bush to be successful. How impressive is that?
