(7-6) San Diego Chargers
Okay, so who really knows how to predict this mess of a west coast match-up? The 49ers just dropped a 40-burger on Seattle last week and are somehow still in the playoff hunt. The Chargers shut out the Cassel-less Chiefs last weekend but were spanked by Oakland the week before. Any outcome is possible tonight. But let’s break it down anyway, shall we?
The Charger defense is awesome… when you look at the stats. They rank first overall in pass defense and fourth in rush D, ensuring a difficult time for Alex Smith, who will be without Frank Gore for the rest of the season. Still, the Chargers are always ready for a let-down. I don’t suspect it will happen tonight, but I’d blame that more on the lack of consistency or firepower for the Niners more than I would credit San Diego. The Francisco defense may keep them in this longer than they should be, but there’s no way they stifle Rivers tonight. If the Chargers don’t win, they’re done. Even if they do win, it’s HIGHLY unlikely they’ll get into the post-season. At 7-6, it’s hard to argue against that. This game has a chance to be ugly, but a shoot-out could be in the works... Wait, is Alex Smith starting again? Pfft on that.
Enjoy the game!
