NY JETS – WEEK ONE ALREADY A MUST WIN?
Hey Jet fans,I know it seems a little early, ok a lot early to claim that a team whose season hasn’t even started yet is already facing a must win game, but let’s take a look at the situation. The Jets first three games are @ Miami, New England, and @San Diego. Since 1990 only 3 teams out of 204 have started the season 0-3 and made the playoffs. Now is there a chance that the Jets could beat the Patriots or the Chargers? Sure there is, but both of those teams will be heavy favorites going into each game. And honestly the only real shot the jets have is riding the momentum from an opening week win against the Dolphins and playing their hated rivals at home in a close game that they pull off at the end of the game. Now If the Jets lose their opener to Miami, the rumblings will start, and to lose to the Dolphins probably signifies that the Jets big off season acquisitions haven’t gelled together just yet, and it would be doubtful that they would be able to put everything together in a week’s time to face the Patriots. Now I don’t think anyone in the Jets locker room is standing up and saying, “hey we better win week one, because there is little chance that we are going to win our next two games,” but believe me the unspoken pressure and thoughts are there. So bottom line Jets fans, Win in week one and you have somewhat of a shot to start 2-1, or at worse 1-2. However lose week one and the dreaded 0-3 start looks inevitable and all the excitement, expectations and the playoff hopes could be over before they even start, Unless you like your odds of 3 in every 204.
