Stults Proves to be the Real Deal

Eric Stults; literally just minutes after his impressive shutout and his second straight win, has inspired me to come up with my first blog topic. As much as this blog is to praise Stults, who threw a complete game shutout giving up only 4 hits along with 1 walk, it's also about a flaw in the Dodgers farm system. They seem to have a knack of calling up blue chip pitching prospects to soon. Clayton Kershaw is a future star, theirs nothing else to it, but he's not ready for the major leagues right now. His lack of control is a symptom of not having his composure. He's to young, most people couldn't even get on a mound and throw a strike. He has to go out there as the most highly touted pitching prospect in dodgers history, and throw a baseball at 97 MPH past super star hitters. Not to mention 40,000 plus adoring fans who have been waiting to see him pitch since he was drafted. He's only 20, it's ridiculous to believe he should be able to succeed. We've done this before; anyone remember Edwin Jackson or Odalis Perez. Jackson was also just 20 in his debut, and he never worked out for the Dodgers. Now its still too early for LA to count their eggs, but Eric has been really impressive. He's 28 and has spent a few seasons down in the minors. Hopefully with his success the Dodgers will realize the success of an age old formula:good talent + a couple of years of seasoning in the minors along with descent coaching usually results in a good big leaguer. Maybe, Clayton can prove me wrong. I really hope he can do the same as Chad Billingsly and develop while on the big league roster, because he is a rare, raw talent, but if he can't be refined, it's okay because Stults proved he's the real deal.
