Vultures are flying over the San Antonio Spurs

By vultures, I'm not talking about the paparazzi and their quest to get the latest on Eva Longoria-Parker's hubby Tony Parker. Instead, I'm being painfully realistic.

The Spurs are down 2-0 to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Best-of-Seven Western Conference finals. The first game the Spurs barely lost despite having had virtually no rest and despite giving up a 20-point third-quarter lead. In the second game, things fared even worse as L.A. beat San Antonio 101-71. The Spurs have four championships, a great strong, silent leader in Tim "The Big Fundamental" Duncan and a team known for its defense. Well, this year the Lakers have given Kobe Bryant a nice supporting cast so that Kobe doesn't have to worry about doing it all by himself.

And I'm starting to think that the Lakers just have too much firepower for the Spurs. That and maybe Mega-Laker fan Jack Nicholson is sticking his leg out onto the court whenever a Spur runs by.

Plenty to worry about from this game. The Spurs took 16 more field goal attempts than the Lakers, shooting an abysmal 34.5 percent from the floor. Yikes. The Spurs also never led the game and last tied the game late in the second quarter. For the Spurs, Parker led the scoring with 13 points; Bryant had 22. Interestingly enough, Duncan led everybody on both teams with 16 rebounds. And here's a very telling statistic that shows why Bryant was well-deserving of the MVP this year and may also become the NBA Finals MVP: Bryant led everybody on both teams iwth five assists. He's showing that, unlike his former self and unlike a certain former Philadelphia 76er and current Denver Nugget, he's not going to try to make the shot every single time.

Next two games are in San Antonio at AT&T center. Yes, the Spurs trailed the New Orleans Hornets 0-2 before winning the series 4-3, but the Hornets aren't the Lakers (minus head coach and former Laker Byron Scott, of course).
