Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it doesn't, it just sort of stays the same.

Julius Jones has signed with the Hawks giving them a running corps of five backs I could care less about. I thought Duckett (a clone of Leonard Weaver) was a waste of time and money, but this move really takes the cake.

Jones could be Shaun Alexander's smaller, faster twin. They both have perfected the two-yards-and-fall-upon-first-contact running style that Seattle and Dallas fans have come to detest, and for good reason.

The only way I support this move is if Seattle grabs an offensive lineman in the draft.

Jones' speed is meaningless if Mike Wahle is the only upgrade to the hoggies. He needs holes to run through people. It's like a dog at a show jumping through hoops. The puppy flies when he sees the daylight in the rings, but no daylight and the sucker just sits there.

What an idiot

Tripp Isenhour, a two-year, part-time PGA tour card holder, aimed at and killed a red-shouldered hawk with a golf ball on Wednesday. The hawk reportedly was annoying Isenhour while he was filming a golf shot for the television show "Shoot Like a Pro" in Orlando.

Taking matters into his own hands, Isenhour repeatedly aimed at the bird, which was too loud for his taste, until he shot it down. The bird was buried on the course.

While Isenhour has released an official statement saying he's an animal lover and his shots had no ill intentions, his actions have spoken much louder than his words, which come all too late. I don't think anyone cares if you have three adopted cats at home dude.

Here I thought we golfed to escape the city and to see birds and to be one with nature. What was I thinking?

March 6th, 1964.

Tom O'Hara of Illinois finished the indoor mile in under four minutes 44 years ago today.

Yikes!

Myself, I keep an eight-minute pace and I've never just tried to race a mile. It might be an interesting undertaking, if you're into punishment from the pavement like myself anyhow.

Shoot Tom could probly still whoop my behind. Running is a challenge isn't it? My right hamstring feels like it is made out of ice today. Sweet.

Speaking of painful running...

Shaq better figure out how to get up and down. Happy birthday big man. On this day in 1972, you said hello to the world, now it's time you say hello to the treadmill. I love the big fella, but he better get some good rest before the Suns take on division leading Utah. His 12 and 18 didn't look too bad today, they also didn't get it done.

His future was limitless. Sure, he was a bit undersized, but Oregon's Joey Harrington could throw the football. Joey Heisman had a billboard in Times Square for goodness sake.

And now, here he stands a free agent.

One has to wonder how this all came to be. He's a great guy. His background is flawless. You would never find him in a strip club smacking dancers around with the butt-end of his handgun. He never got suspended for drugs. He never, ever, got out of hand with the media ala Ryan Leaf. Nice guys really do finish last I suppose.

But is he finished?

The better question is what the hell happened? First of all, Detroit and Matt Millen and their inefficient running game and offensive line killed him (not too mention high-profile receivers that never amounted to anything). His confidence couldn't have fallen further if it was up on that Times Square billboard. Next thing you know, Harrington can't make the simple passes and every Detroit fan boos the kid incessantly.

Who cares?

TJ Duckett is a worthless signing if there ever was one. What exactly are the Seahawks planning on doing with him? Maybe he plays on the o-line? We could use a few good hoggies (and it would probably take a few to replace Hutch!).

Duckett doesn't give the Seahawks much in my eyes. Can he catch? Lord knows he won't run.

And how about Jeb Putzier? Boy if we needed anything, it wasn't Jeb Putzier.

Marcus Pollard was terrible. Yes, he probably cost us a win. Putzier is worse. I'm getting the idea that the Mariners are selling the Seahawks front office secrets. 

Mike, go out and sign up some linemen. Draft us a couple too. Mo Morris can run. Shoot, stick Obamanu at tight end. We've got receivers for days.

The world is so awesome.

I mean, I can blow bubbles with LeBron James bubble gum, jump to the moon in Nike Air Jordan shoes and I can set up huge armies of four-inch-high sports toy figurines (they're statues!).

What the hell has been going on? Simply put, sports have been evolving and so has the market attached to them. Collectibles and endorsement deals mean big bucks not only in athletes pockets, but also in the overall economy.

It makes sense to have athletes pitching athletic equipment, even though half of it sucks (think Shaquille O'Neal and anything made by Franklin). I guess more than half of the athletes out there suck too, so it actually evens out rather nicely.

If only "good" players would pitch "good" gear.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Seattle kickers. I think it was because one of them was from my home town and my buddy used to run around with the guy's old ID (I'm not quite sure how exactly he got it) so he could drink (il)legally.

It worked every time. The best thing about it was the guy was kicking in Seattle at the time, and my buddy was flashing his ID all around the 206 and no one even flinched, nor did they recognize the kicker or mention the Hawks.

At a Mariners game even. We're standing there, first inning, just got beers (yes for about $7!), and this sheriff comes up. 

"Id's fellas," he said.

We hand them over. The guy says he knew I was of age (yes I was hurt I was only 23 at the time), but he wasn't sure about my young friend. Kicker's ID says the kid is two years older than me, I'm thinkin' my bro is effed.

Fantasy Football.

I like it. I play it. I read Matthew Berry's columns. This is my ode to him while trashing the guys in my league. Enjoy.

I got stories about crazy girlfriends too, but I'm going to keep those to my self. Let's get to the picks. I didn't get any letters in the mailbag, so we've got nothin but picks this week (surprise)!

Remember, those I love are teams I feel will make the playoffs. Those I hate, well, they better start building next year's war room (although they can still play spoiler). I used to say no obvious names, but if I would have told you Rico would make the playoffs, you would have agreed, and you also would have been wrong.

 Well, I'm not sure what to say. These are heavy times. I just filled up my Civic for 40 bones, I've got friends rakin' in hazard pay in Iraq, the Christmas rape is in full swing, and amid the whirlwind of craziness that is post-911 earth, people would rather hear Britney Spears updates than do anything to help each other, thus helping themselves.

The back alleys of escape are few and far between. Sure getting loaded is always an option, but it's more like not escaping at all than really getting away. How many powerful allies have the friends of peace lost to the lonely haze of drugs and alcohol?

Hopelessness abounds.

There's art. I really get off on art every now and again. Whether it's music or drawing or both, those things are a good way to run free for awhile. Then again, somehow art always leads to expression, which for me, leads to social commentary, which to me is no escape at all.

Isn't it weird how things always work out and never seem to go right?

No major insight here, just tired, and well, wide awake. Another pair that seems to go together all the time even though logically they shouldn't, huh?

I don't know what's up with that either, probably just a freak of speaking that randomly fell into my brain.

Well, I suppose I wish more things would fall into my brain (or maybe fall out), but for now, I'm not pressing.

The days are long, life is short, and I'm always hungry (unless I'm full). You know what that means? Nothing. Not a damn thing!
