Andrew Bynum

29 November 2008

you are prohibited from talking any kind of trash to one the all-time greats? I think it's fair.

Andrew Bynum has a bone spur in his right foot. After hours of trying to find a San Antonio joke, I give up. (Spurs- get it?) He finished with a double-double last night, but as his spur goes so does the Lakers.

Back to back double doubles for the big fella (Andrew Bynum). Kudos. Keep working hard kid, though, six turnovers is scary. I guess since I’ve been getting down on Kobe for his shot selec

Trevor Ariza and Jordan Farmar are playing amazing as well. And Andrew Bynum pulled down 17 boards Wednesday night. Everyone on the team is doing their part, sharing the ball and not forcing

Around the NBA:

- It's been confirmed by one source that Lakers and center Andrew Bynum have come to terms of a three-year contract extension worth approximately $42 million. (Not bad for a 21 year old who has exceptional upside, but still on the unproven side). I think he'll be worth it for sure if he can manage to stay healthy and on the court.

an, yet finally maturing and toned 285…playing center for the Los Angeles Lakers, #21…Andrew Bynum!

Recently recovered from knee surgery, the 21-year-old with the baby face uses his soft touch around the basket, and his Mr. Fantastic-like abilities to reach up into the sky and seemingly grab and flush down every single pass, no matter how wild or how off target, while also using a limited, but effective array of hooks, bank shots and dunks to completely dominate the middle on offense. With his 7-3 wingspan, he is able to alter plenty of shots and send many of them back like letters with wrong addresses.

It ended with a Lakers score. Here’s why that shot wasn’t a bad shot. Andrew Bynum had Andrea freaking Bargnani on him and Pau (who had initiated the break in the first place) was hustling back down the court with Jermaine O’Neal trailing him. That’s the two biggest players on the Lakers underneath or moving towards the rim with JO behind and Bargnani “on” Bynum. I’d take those match-ups every which way including loose. Which means Vlad Rad, who, I think is supposed to be known for his 3-point prowess (right Joel?) should take that shot every single time in that situation. You’ve got your two best rebounders on isos against weaker rebounders and a wide open look at your bread and butter shot. Vlad’s gotta take that shot. Period. Exclamation!

ry-shot Vlad Rad clone who was upset because of lack of playing time; Chris Mihm, a perennial IRer; Andrew Bynum, called dough boy, who every media person in the world questioned both mentally and physically; Kwame Brown, no explanation needed; Ronny Turiaf, an energetic player who plays with the metaphorical heart, but who has real heart problems; Jordan Farmar, a sophomore point guard; Javaris Crittendon, a rookie point guard; Maurice Evans, an athletic, shoot-first backup shooting guard; Sasha Vujacic, a dude who Phil dubbed an 11 a.m. player because he could hit all his shots during practice, but none during the game; Lamar, a self-proclaimed number 3 trying to masquerade as a 2; and Fish who was the only saving grace for KB.

He even threw his young teammates under the bus, namely Andrew Bynum. Yes, very baby-like, very immature, very unclassy. Very, dare I say it, Shaq-like.

But, despite that, he came to camp, worked his butt off like he always does, and began the season playing just as hard as he had in previous seasons. The Lakers started off hot, and

Andrew Bynum has reportedly been working out with Chris Mihm and could run through full practice as early as this week. This is great news. Also great news is the recent play of Lamar Odom. As discussed last week in this blog, Odom has finally started to play with a fire and confidence that has been sorely lacking from his all-around game. He’s shooting 86 percent in his last two games. He’s found a great rhythm playing with both Kobe and especially Gasol and has become deadly efficient.

Spurs finally ready to repeat?  Who will be the dark horse, Houston, Denver, Utah?  Will Andrew Bynum come back and be the same guy he was before he hurt his knee and will Kobe be able to deal with his injured finger?  These are just a few of the questions that will be answered before we can crown a champion in June.  Teams around the league took three and a half months to study for this test.  Tonight, they begin taking their exams.

inally got his wish and having an All-Star sidekick means he'll remain a Laker for life, and 3) Andrew Bynum's knee injury is a lot more serious than what the team is revealing.

When Bynum's kneecap popped out of place last January, I thought for sure the Lakers were dead in the water. Then, the injury report came out and it read that Bynum was expected to have a full recovery and should be ready by mid-March. Well, not so fast. L.A. Times columnist Kurt Streeter sat down with Bynum over the weekend and reported that there is still some swelling in the knee. Not good. The severity of the injury most likely played a key role in the Lakers going to Plan B and got the Gasol deal done ASAP.

Once again, the injury bug strikes at the height of success.

Andrew Bynum is out for eight weeks. Eight weeks. That’s two months. The kid’s been stellar in his third season, averaging 13 and 10 with 2 blocks. He’s been shooting a scalding 63 percent, and has been a key component in the Lakers’ rise to the top of the West. Over his past five games, all Lakers’ victories, he’s been phenomenal. 17.5 points, 11.5 boards, with 2.4 assists and 2.2 blocks, while shooting an insane 69 percent from the field.

All right, all right. I admit. I've disliked the former number one overall draft pick for quite some time. He's been a negative for most of the time he's been in the league, and even when he seems like he's ready to turn the corner and be a major contributor (last year and this year), he gets riddled with little injuries that seem to take months to recover from.
