Baron Davis

18 August 2008

Well, it's taken me a minute to write this second part, mostly due to the fact that I’ve been swamped with work. Some good news, well, for me anyway, is that this blog will soon become available as a podcast. I’m working out the details but a big thanks to Bill Takeshita for getting me into it.

and will get a lot of back up, and probably a decent chunk of starters minutes when the inevitable Baron Davis injury happens. I like it.

Everything about this Clippers offseason should have me concerned. I mean, this is, after all, the freaking Clippers we’re talking about here. Nothing about what the organization has ever done indicates that the flurry of signings this summer will work. From draft picks to trades to mishandling their own stars, the Clippers have been the joke of the NBA for…well, forever.

ippers fans could care less about this signing) is that Ricky's two winning seasons came as a young Baron Davis' sidekick. Yup, back when BD was leading/coming up with the Hornets.

So, a reunion could be a wonderful thing. Maybe they'll click, gel, get back and play winning ball. Or, perhaps they'll both get lazy with gauranteed contracts and all the Clips grandiose plans will go right down the crapper.

/>I’ve gone over Eric Gordon’s physical nature and his penchant for playing defense and Baron Davis, when he wants to, can be a lockdown, physical, elite defender as well. Thornton has some issues, but if the team chooses to re-sign Quentin Ross (which is now a possibility due to the Camby signing), this team has got itself some JB and Kyle…Tenacious D.

thought, which might be even better, is trading Nash and Raja Bell to the Golden State Warriors for Baron Davis. Again, this gives the Warriors some stability and a guy who can get every single Warrior involved. Baron is too up and down, and he’s going to want a huge extension, something the Warriors would like to save for Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. Nash is a superstar with a reasonable cotract who will need less and less time as the years progress opening up playing time for all of the young guns growing on the Warriors bench. Plus, Nash brings MVP caliber experience and determination and leadership. That’s another situation where Nash can thrive and where his defensive shortcomings won’t matter. Talk about hyper-Suns ball. The Warriors have enough horses and enough firepower and enough depth to outshoot anybody. Plus, Monta could then take over as their crunch time bucket-getter.

Here it is finally. After all these months of saying I’m going to write it, I’m finally getting it done. The timing is actually appropriate because Sam Cassell will shortly become very relevant again. Yesterday, the Clips finally gave in and waived Cassell, giving Sammy boy the golden opportunity to chase a championship with his buddy KG.
