Brady Quinn

2 November 2009

Derek Anderson was FINALLY replaced by Brady Quinn, but only after it was clear Quinn would not get 70% of the year’s offensive snaps and therefore not trigger $11 million dollars worth of bonuses. I guess going 6 for 17 with two interceptions was enough for Mangini. Just ridiculous. Every aspect of that organization has major issues.

n, since current starter Derek Anderson is not as accurate but has a bigger arm than former starter Brady Quinn. For an offense that supposedly focuses on crisp short passes, Anderson would seem not to fit Eric Mangini's gameplan, but what do I know? He's apparently a genius. (It could also have to do with not paying Quinn $11 million in roster bonuses if he takes 70% of the offensive snaps this season. Just maybe.)

est long ball in the league.

(1-4) Cleveland Browns at (3-2) Pittsburgh Steelers

Is Brady Quinn being traded? Is that why his house is up for sale? Who cares? The Browns suck and will continue to be awful as long as Eric Mangini keeps trading away their best players. “I want to run a ball control offense, so I’ll have Derek Anderson as my starter! Going 2 for 17 is efficient enough for me!” He needs to stop, just like Cleveland’s winning streak will on Sunday. Pittsburgh should lay the wood to these streaking Browns.

Derek Anderson may be starting this week, but I don't think Brady Quinn will stay on the sidelines all season.

Baltimore Ravens (3-0) at New England Patriots (2-1)

Joe Flacco is playing out of his gourd for the Ravens, who appear to be the best team in the NFL. This game will either debunk that theory or prove it. New England found a rushing attack last week behind Fred Taylor, but they may lose it again versus the Ravens’ intimidating defense. Wes Welker needs to be healthy for Tom Brady to have success in this one.

The crazy part came when Eric Mangini benched Brady Quinn in the second half for Derek Anderson only to see Anderson throw three interceptions. Stick with Quinn.

Short accurate passes to Viking playmakers will keep this offense balanced.

Oh, Brady Quinn was Cleveland’s starting quarterback. Was it an advantage Mangini? Not really, as the Browns offense was anemic after the first half, mainly hitting short throws that didn’t move the chains. That’s not an offense Eric.

10 September 2009

Reports place the starter’s job with Brady Quinn, who was suggested to be the winner all along. This could be an ugly season in Cleveland, with plenty of defensive problems and an offense that doesn’t look to put up more than 13 – 17 points a game.

In Cleveland notes, how odd was it for Browns head coach Eric Mangini to not play competing QB's Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson during their final preseason game? I guess that decision has already been made, despite Mangini's lack of information. I'd give the nod to Quinn for his accuracy, but Anderson has the stronger arm.

solid!  Philadelphia 24, New York Giants 23.

Short Shots:

Brady Quinn played very well last night in his 1st NFL start.  Unfortunately, his defense let him down, as did Kellen Winslow.  Maybe the Browns should make a play for DeAngelo Hall…it couldn’t hurt, right?

14 March 2008

The ceremonial fireworks of the opening weeks of free agency have finally started dying down and there’s a lot of dust to clear through. A few teams have made some big strides, immediately raising their hopes for 2008 with key acquisitions and retainers. I’m pretty sure we can all agree that the Browns are probably the poster child for this offseason. On the heels of a ten-win season in which they were unfortunately robbed of a playoff spot, the team too good for a logo had much to look forward to – rising young talent in Edwards (who finally learned how to catch short passes over the middle) and Winslow (who finally realized it wasn’t a good idea to pop wheelies on your bike in May), a terrific offensive line with a young left tackle quickly making a name for himself, a defense that could only really improve. Now, they’ve set themselves up for great success by bringing in talent on both sides of the ball. Re-signing Anderson was a must in my opinion, and the Browns will be all the happier seeing him rather than future franchise QB Quinn trying to direct the offense. Giving Quinn more time as a spectator will aid the transition from college and help him adjust for when he eventually makes his debut. Sure, some would argue that Quinn deserves his shot now, but no one can say that the extra time won’t hurt – two years on the bench is the most valued experience for a fresh QB. With Anderson, even if he does prove to be nothing more than a flash in the pan (as we might suspect from the closing weeks of last season), Quinn is waiting in the ranks. The Browns’ offense also became much more explosive with the addition of Stallworth, a legit speedster who seems to be on a new team each season. The Saints, Eagles, Pats -- can’t we get some consistency? Millions of fantasy owners don’t want to gamble on you each year! We like sure things! (Ironic side note: There are no sure things in fantasy football.)

ason to pause and rewind their Tivo in confusion.

The bigger issue, though, is the Brady Quinn factor.
Not only are fans curious to see what they have in Quinn, the Browns also are not a complete team yet.

ck Charlie Frye after just two seasons and select LSU standout JaMarcus Russell or Notre Dame's Brady Quinn? Could the Browns bolster their receiving corps by selecting the incredible wideout from Georgia Tech, Calvin Johnson?
