Chester Taylor

was a long and moderately successful one, but we have better options on the roster.

Running Back Chester Taylor

It’s about freaking time. Despite managing to stay with the team after being supposedly cut on Monday, Taylor couldn’t survive the ascension of Marion Barber and his own utter futility as a Bear thus far. Jerry Angelo signed Taylor last offseason to a four year, $12.5 million dollar deal, but the $7 million in guarantees was paid out over the first year of the contract. The Bears gave him his money and he gave them next to nothing in return. Sure, Taylor isn’t as awful as his stay in Chicago would suggest, but Barber was going to take away nearly all of his carries. As with Desmond Clark, your third running back MUST be a special teams contributor. At 31, you can’t expect that from Taylor. For those interested, he’s already signed on with Arizona, providing them with depth at the position and a veteran pass-catcher out of the backfield.

e my thoughts from tonight’s (still meaningless) win.

Associated Press

-Showing off Chester Taylor were we? It looks like we were showcasing Taylor for an impending trade. He got to take more handoffs in tonight’s game than any game I’ve seen him in before. (Probably not true, but it felt like it.) I can’t believe we’re going to keep him on the roster, unless Kahlil Bell or Marion Barber’s injuries are more serious than initially reported. We’ll milk a 6th round pick out of somebody.

for as the Browns come into Solider Field for the last preseason game of 2011.

The Last Stand of Chester Taylor

After the awkward release/non-release that happened/didn’t happen on Monday, the former Vikings running back is still in danger of being released. My thoughts are that Lovie will hold Matt Forte and Marion Barber out of tonight’s contest and didn’t want to give up the depth at RB yet. Whatever the case may be, there’s almost no way Taylor stays on this team for long. Look for a possible trade to alleviate the problem.Crowd of D-Fatties

D-tackle Marcus Harrison may get the boot this year as well. Also, Chester Taylor may not say he’s concerned, but it’s becoming a very real possibility that he gets released before the preseason is over. Not that the Bears couldn’t take four running backs, I just don’t think they will. It’s either Taylor of Kahlil Bell that goes.

Here’s what I learned from Saturday night’s 10-3 win over Buffalo.-Chester Taylor is not in the long-term (or even short-term) plan for this team.

Only on the receiving end of three hand-offs on Saturday, it’s clear what the Bear coaching staff thinks of Taylor. You saw Forte start the game, Marion Barber finish out the first half and then Kahlil Bell and Harvey Unga get the action in the second half. If Chicago keeps only three running backs on the roster (last year they kept 4), Taylor seems the odd man out.

nbsp;Jay hits the ground more than three times, Martz isn't doing his job. Matt Forte and Chester Taylor are extraordinarily rested thanks to their lack of activity the past few weeks, so I would expect their rust to get knocked off this afternoon with a ton of carries. Greg Olsen should factor heavily into what I hope is a limited passing attack, getting past the soft Bill linebackers and sitting in front the secondary. Speaking of which, the Buffalo back four are the only players with which the Bears should be fairly concerned. Jairus Byrd is a play-maker at safety, even if he gambles a bit too much and is overrated because of his interception numbers. Drayton Florence shouldn't be over-looked at corner either.

an ungodly amount of times this season, thanks to one of the Bears' key free agent signings in the Chester Taylor. Stealing him from division rival Minnesota means the Bears made a significant improvement while weakening their primary competition. Taylor is shifty with decent speed and has less tread on his tires than other backs of his age after back-up Adrian Peterson. Despite the speculation, both Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell made the 53-man roster, giving the Bears a contributing special teamer in Wolfe and an actual third RB in Bell.

of note:

-Chester Taylor got plenty of carries and passes early and continued his solid play from the past few weeks. He'll excel as a complement to Matt Forte.

-Chicago's defense looked better... against the Browns' back-ups. Don't put too much into it. I mean, the Browns suck.

While they did show some flashes on a deep pass to Johnny Knox and screen passes to Matt Forte and Chester Taylor, it wasn't enough. For every one or two good plays, Chicago consistently followed-up with a poor one. They never appeared to be completely in-sync, ensuring some long film sessions during this short turn-around before Thursday's final preseason game.

g "hog wild" in free agency after all, signing defensive end Julius Peppers, running back Chester Taylor and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna on Friday.

It was a complete departure from the norm for a Bears front office that is very particular about spending money on players it doesn't know. Anyone who says the Bears are cheap hasn't been paying attention. They shell out the money, but only for players they already have under contract. This year it was different. With no first or second round draft picks, Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith had to swing for the fences in free agency or they'd be on the chopping block for sure after the 2010 season. After a fantastic Friday, it's time to examine the moves the Bears made and how they improve the team going forward.

Running Back

Chester Taylor

Expect Taylor to make bank in free agency as the best back on the market. Serving as Adrian Peterson's back-up in Minnesota has given him an elongated life at a relatively short-lived position. He has less wear and tear than the other big name backs available. Still, I doubt the Bears are going to pay him what he can get elsewhere when they already have Matt Forte,

Has beaten all the top teams with Moss living a dream. The surprising Jamal Lewis (and Chester Taylor for that matter) have finally got Bailey to give up the LJ fantasy at the detriment to the rest of the league. A cakewalk final month of the season will have this team's chest pushed out and grin shit-eatin into the playoffs.
