Darelle Revis

20 September 2010

They shut down Randy Moss even after Darelle Revis left the game with a hamstring injury and made the Patriot defense look mediocre. Mark Sanchez played his best game as a pro, rebounding from the awful week one performance. It seems the AFC East isn't the Patriots' playground. On a personal note, I actually cheered for the Patriots in this one. I needed twelve showers.

d but too often doesn't make the catch.

We all know the Jet defense is predicated on corner Darelle Revis, who finally signed a more lucrative deal after holding out despite being under contract for three more seasons. Bart Scott still brashly heads up the linebackers, that now includes pass rusher and NFL pretty boy Jason Taylor in their ranks. Antonio Cromartie, acquired from San Diego, give the Jets possibly the best corner duo in the NFL. Drafting Kyle Wilson in the first round allows the Jets some flexibility at corner now that Revis is back. Despite the glut of talent on the Jets' defense, Revis allows them to play more aggressively, knowing he's locked down the offense's biggest threat. They needed him, and now they have him. Jets to the Super Bowl is back on... right?

All-Pro corner Darelle Revis will be locked against Reggie Wayne, leaving Dallas Clark for the Jet safeties or linebackers to handle. New York's defense should have no problems shutting down the Indy running game, so the pressure is on their secondary to cover Manning's complement of receivers. On the offensive side of the ball, Ryan must ensure rookie QB Mark Sanchez isn't put in dangerous situations. If all goes to plan the Jets will have 40-plus rushing attempts with Shonn Greene and Thomas Jones, keeping Sanchez somewhere in the 18-24 pass attempt range. Any more than that and the Jets cannot win.

It was an ugliest of games for the team in the prettiest of cities. After winning 11 straight games to finish the regular season, the San Diego Chargers came out with a resounding thud at home against the Jets on Sunday. Penalties, missed field goals and turnovers formed a perfect storm of suck for the Chargers and kept the Jets in the game until the final quarter where they took and held onto the lead to advance to the AFC championship game with a 17-14 victory.

His first step is not making mistakes, second is putting up points. Darelle Revis should have been the defensive player of the year, but he'll have his hands full with a probably match-up on the 6'5" Vincent Jackson.

them at least a field goal and an ill-placed ball from Palmer to Chad Ochocinco was intercepted by Darelle Revis. Aside from those mistakes, kicker Shayne Graham missed his two field goal attempts, both of which were in the second half. Carson Palmer may not be like the elite quarterback he once was, but his receivers were over-matched and couldn't hold onto the ball.

Now? The Jets seem to be tailor-made to go on the road and get a cold-weather win. All-Pro corner Darelle Revis will have no trouble shutting down Ochocinco, leaving the rest of the defense to pressure Palmer and keeping Benson under wraps. New York's offensive success hinges on the play (or lack thereof) of Mark Sanchez. If he has to throw the ball more than 20-22 times, the Jets are going to lose. He puts too many throws up for grabs, throws the Bengals will intercept. Cincy needs to shut down Thomas Jones and the NY running game to force Sanchez into obvious passing downs.
