In light of the recent developments of the tragic figures of Allen Iverson and Stephon Marbury, I have come up with a solution.

Players like these, that have no concept of the fact they are not the center of the universe, deserve to be punished by being traded to the basketball equivalent of hell.

That aside, the Lakers just got smashed Friday night by the Detroit Pistons. Of their last 10 meetings, the Lakers have lost 8. All by double digit margins. 

Friday night saw Kobe force up a bunch of shots, and though he finished with 29 points, he had to take 30 shots to get there. Guarding him for much of the game was Tayshaun Prince. I thought this was interesting because I remember how horridly Kobe played against the Pistons in 03 when they lost in six.

In other quasi-Lakers news, the Detroit Pistons signed my boy, Kwame Brown, to a two-year $8 million deal effectively destroying any hope I had of him resigning with the Lakers. He’ll be basically making, per season, half of what he made under his last contract.

It's shocking to me that the Bulls and Doug Collins haven't gotten together yet. It's as though owner Jerry Reinsdorf bought Collins a drink, chatted him up, then got his phone number, and then puts in a few calls without asking him on a date. It's a good thing there aren't many other suitors, otherwise Doug would have moved on by now.

The only problem with having 60 wins, is having 60 wins.  The better the record, the more a team becomes a favorite, the more they're expected to win.  And ultimately, constant pressure starts pushing down on them like a fat guy in a kids top bunk bed.  It can be difficult for a team (or a frightened kid below), especially a great one.   I didn't even mention the Patriots.

We have been waiting for this moment for months.  No, I’m not talking about the Jason Kidd trade to go through (which it did today).  I am talking to about the second half of the NBA season to begin.  The first three and a half months can be such a drag, and usually are but in the second half, everything picks up.  It is a two-month stretch run to the playoffs.  This is the time when teams like San Antonio and Detroit flip their switch on and look to be playing their best when the playoffs begin.  The flurry of trades that have gone on in the last two or three weeks has just made the second half that much more interesting.  The NBA season is about 20 games too long and it kills ratings but now is the time to jump on the bandwagon.  These next couple months of the regular season and the playoffs are going to be some of the best basketball since the ‘80’s.  The NBA, where exciting happens.

t there are players in the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trailblazers, Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle Sonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, New Orleans, and I apologize if I left anyone out, who cow towe to team owners, peer groups, and making money, glitz, glamor, being effeminate, etc.  There are also professional basketball players who cow towe to their concept of self.  They always go to their strength.  Their strength resides in their hearts and minds. They believe in who they are because they know who they are.  Money, team owners, peer groups, glitz, glamor, being effeminate, etc. are particles of dust when juxtaposing them to their desire to perform to their greatest abilities as a professional basketball player.

Denver Nugget, Carmelo Anthony, smiled when he was fouled by a San Antonio Spurs player during a game last week.  Meanwhile, a Spur rebounded Anthony's shot.  He whizzed a pass to a teammate.  The teammate passed to another teammate.  Then, a Spur dunked the ball.
