Devin Aromashodu

11 September 2010

Along with Earl Bennett and Devin Aromashodu, Knox is an actual wide-out, unlike Devin Hester and Rashied Davis, who are converted defensive backs. Everyone is looking at Aromashodu for a break-out year, but that might be wishful thinking. As much as I like his size, D.A. might not be ready to become a true number one receiver this year, if ever. Knox, Hester and Davis are great fits for Martz's system, which spreads the ball around. One of them will likely break the 1,000 yard plateau, which would be Knox if I were a betting man. I just don't have faith in Hester to take that next step forward. He's a number two at best. While I'm not as negative about this group as I was last year, it's unsettling that Angelo didn't made any changes. Hopefully this offense makes them look as good as the coaching staff is telling us they are.

tz's bells and whistles won't be on display, but the basics of the system should come into view.

-Devin Aromashodu

Aromashodu had a solid game last week against the Chargers with 4 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. This week pay attention to the chemistry between he and Cutler on passing plays. We all know Jay lobbied for Devin to play last season, so let's watch if D.A. takes a few receptions away from Johnny Knox as Cutler's go-to guy.

There's some great competition here.

-Devin Aromashodu's 4 catches for 78 yards and 1 TD stood out on offense. He might not be a legitimate number one yet, but D.A.'s come a long way. Hopefully he keeps getting better.

ful with his ankle injury from last week, but Devin Hester will return to the field in his absence. Devin Aromashodu is going to see plenty of balls his way in the season finale. Odds: Chi

eason because I know he can play like he did on Monday night.

-Welcome to the wide receiver party Devin Aromashodu. Can anyone legitimately argue that he's not the best wide receiver on the squad? He's tall, has solid hands, has good speed and a rapport with Jay Cutler. What else does he need? Jay loves a big target, especially after throwing to Brandon Marshall for so long. Aromashodu may have a long way to go, but his 7 catches for 150 yards on Monday could drastically alters the Bears wide-out landscape going into next season. Seeing him burn Antoine Winfield for the game-winning touchdown was superb.

That'll teach me.

A few things resonated with me from this game:

-Devin Aromashodu needed to see the field earlier this season. When Jay Cutler likes a receiver, he's going to look for them. Period. Just see what Johnny Knox has done this season. Aromashodu's 8 catches for 76 yards and one impressive endzone grab came only because Devin Hester was on the sidelines. As the only big wide-out on the roster, Lovie Smith must be able to see the match-up problems he can cause. He may not be Randy Moss, but with Cutler he won't have to be.

After a 12-yard scramble exploded Solider Field, Cutler tossed a 38-yard pass to Devin Aromashodu, who made a terrific one-handed grab. From there, a Cutler roll-out off of play-action led to a one-yard endzone catch for Desmond Clark, who could not have been more open. Cutler and the first-team offense left the field with a 17-0 lead over the first teamers of the New York Giants.
