(11-5) Green Bay Packers 33
(10-6) Arizona Cardinals 7
By the time the game started, Arizona had nothing left to play for. Kurt Warner didn't go further than the first quarter, allowing Matt Leinart to get owned by a ball-hawking Packer defensive unit. The Packers played like the better team behind another Aaron Rodgers air show, but things will be much different in their rematch in the wildcard round. Still, I'm sure the confidence gained from pummeling their playoff opponent won't hurt Green Bay.

(10-5) Green Bay Packers at (10-5) Arizona Cardinals
After the Saints, the NFC playoff picture gets awfully muddled. The only team that can't jump up to the two seed is the Packers. Thanks to two losses to the Vikings this season they're locked into one of the two wild card spots. Arizona could get the other first round bye with losses from the Eagles and Vikings, but their defense must pressure Aaron Rodgers to slow down the Packers' dynamic pass offense. Most NFC scenarios include these two squads meeting in the wild-card round, so there could be some vanilla in the play-calling mix from Green Bay. Cardinals may have more to play for, but I like the Packers.

(9-4) Green Bay Packers at (6-7) Pittsburgh Steelers
At this point, Mike Tomlin's Steelers are just looking to salvage their season and avoid falling further below .500. They'll get a tough challenge from the Packers, who are hoping to lock down a wildcard slot. Aaron Rodgers will likely tear apart a struggling Steelers secondary that will probably be without Troy Polamalu for another week. Big Ben will need more time in the pocket and a better running game to beat this far superior opponent.

I feel teased. I feel like a perfect 10 didn't bother giving me the time of day when I walked past her at the bar. No big whoop. I wasn't going to think twice about it. But then she starts coyly smiling at me an hour later while drinking a cocktail through a straw. A half hour later SHE comes over to me and asks if I'm single, causing me to wonder whether or not I cleaned my bedroom and stashed my Spider-man pillow in case of a female presence. All of a sudden, when I feel like she's giving me the all-clear, she walks away to chat up douche number six and leaves me high and dry. That's how the Bears' 21-14 loss to the Packers made me feel.

(5-4) Green Bay Packers 17
(6-3) Dallas Cowboys 7
What a derailing of Dallas’ domination. (Hasn’t quite been domination, but I wanted the alliteration. Now I rhymed. Yikes.) Green Bay’s 3-4 defense confused the heck out of Tony Romo and the Dallas offense, who ironically see a 3-4 EVERY DAY in practice. For Green Bay, the only way to off-set all the sacks on Aaron Rodgers (besides protecting him) is to hit the snot out of the other QB.

(6-2) Dallas Cowboys at (4-4) Green Bay Packers
A four-game winning streak will be on the line for tony Romo and the ‘Boys when they roll into Lambeau Field today. The Packers have lost two in a row and are in danger of an injury to Aaron Rodgers with the way Dallas rushes the QB. Green Bay desperately needs a successful running game to keep that defense off his back. Mike McCarthy is certainly feeling pressure to get his team back to the playoffs and dropping to 4-5 won’t do his job security any favors.

Oh Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers won’t be able to finish the season at this rate. Rodgers was sacked six times and tossed three interceptions against the Bucs, who had a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start. Josh Freeman only completed 14 of his 31 pass attempts, but he certainly made them when they counted, putting it in the endzone three times. Head coach Raheem Morris finally gets his first win of the season, ensuring no team will go winless in 2009.

(7-1) Minnesota Vikings 38
(4-3) Green Bay Packers 26
So Favre has swept the Packers and has looked calm doing it. Great, now we’ll never hear the end of it. Green Bay just couldn’t mount enough offense to dig out of a 21 point third-quarter hole. They tried valiantly, every time it got close Favre and the Vikings would smoothly march down the field and shut the door. Aaron Rodgers got beat up yet again, you have to feel sorry for the guy. Adrian Peterson failed to reach 100 rushing yards for the sixth time this season and the Vikings are STILL 7-1. That’s what they needed Favre for. Now we wait and see how the aged one holds up down the season’s home stretch. Next week’s bye should help. Gr.

(6-1) Minnesota Vikings at (4-2) Green Bay Packers
I hear this is a big game. Really. If it weren’t for the World Series, this game would be on Sunday night. (And would force MLB to move their game if it did coincide. There’s no winning against the NFL.) Favre returns to Green Bay wearing a purple #4 jersey. What better drama can you get? (Unless they met again the playoffs… can you say premature Super Bowl?) After a Favre pick and interception were returned for touchdowns last week by the Steelers, I think Brad Childress will maintain a healthy dose of Adrian Peterson against a still-gelling Green bay defensive unit. (Yes GB held the Lions and Browns to three points total, but I’m not sold yet.)

(4-0) Minnesota Vikings 30
(2-2) Green Bay Packers 23
Brett Favre won the Brett Favre Bowl. Surprised? I’m not. As hard as I was rooting for the Packers (and I was, it was so weird), it never seemed as if they could overcome Minnesota’s defense until it was too late. They even shut down Adrian Peterson, holding him to 55 yards on 25 carries. But Favre was efficient with the long ball and more importantly never turned the ball over. Aaron Rodgers had two turnovers, both of which led to touchdowns. (He also took a safety. Completely inexcusable in that situation.) Still, they’ll meet again. Next time it will be in Green Bay.

Green Bay Packers (2-1) at Minnesota Vikings (3-0)
Can this hype get any bigger? Brett Favre’s former flame comes to town to face their old quarterback and his newfound Minnesotan lover. Aaron Rodgers should be just fine, Brett’ll hand off to Adrian Peterson quite a bit, but I wonder how Green Bay will play on defense? Daring Favre to beat you by stacking the line of scrimmage may work, but it might result in public backlash if Favre throws the Vikes to victory. Either way, I’m sitting down Monday night and rooting for Green Bay as hard as I can.

HA! That’s just embarrassing for Green Bay fans. You take down your division rival in week one just to fall to the lowly Bengals the next week. Carson Palmer hasn’t been himself for a few years; maybe this is the season he can get back on track as being one of the best QB’s in football.

To his credit, three of those interceptions came in the first half, and the Bears were still only down eight points. Ron Turner’s play-calling did nothing to stop the bleeding, as he completely abandoned Matt Forte and the running game in the first half. Maybe Turner didn’t realize that you should take the ball out of your QB’s hands when he’s throwing interceptions? You let him settle back down with some hand-offs and then ease him back into throwing. Cutler is not Tom Brady; he gets emotional and needs to be reigned in every now and again. Deal with it.

Boy, this Brett Favre character really knows how to play with a man's heart. He's there, he's not, he's back, he's not, he's done for good.. PSYCH! He really isn't done, NOT! He is done! Today is opposite day, he's back! This is a legendary performance and my man, Brett, hasn't even taken the field yet. I'm so psyched; my friend called me that day.. and all I could think was they're baaaa-ack. Except instead of zombies, it was DB's screaming.

Well, the Brett Favre saga appears to be over… for now.
The routinely flip-flopping quarterback informed ESPN’s Ed Werder of his decision to stay retired after telling Brad Childress of the Minnesota Vikings. Favre explained that he was unsure of his body’s ability to withstand another grueling NFL season and the training camp and preseason schedule that accompany it.

Well, that's disappointing. I've gotten a few Packers fans all riled up with my Favre and Away post and now he's staying retired.. OR so he says. Muuuahahah. I hope this isn't over, I can't get enough of this story.. it's so much better than the Michael Jackson coverage. Brett has done more, and if you don't think so.. you're wrong. Michael Jackson doesn't have a prayer after him I bet.. Brett does. It's no big deal, that's just who he is and why he will be missed.

ESPN has an unknown segment on nearly every edition of Sportscenter called "The Favre Watch," which chronicles the ins and outs of Brett Favre's possible return to the NFL. In Wisconsin, the fans don't even need ESPN because whether they are out camping or on the golf course having a few beers the Favre story finds them. Inevitably, it throws off their golf game as they miss an easy putt or break their wedge in the sand and somehow it's Favre's fault. And you know what? I am sick and tired of all of this "Brett is losing a fan here" talk because Brett Favre doesn't care if you're not his fan anymore. His only mission right now is to come back and stick it to Ted Thompson. The same Ted Thompson that ran him out of Green Bay, the same Ted Thompson that wanted to put his mark on the roster.. the same Ted Thompson that has shrewdly put together an impressive roster.. so darn impressive that Green Bay rattled off 6 wins last year. (I know, Favre can't stop the run.. Favre can't stop the pass.. Favre's not giving up 30 points a game.. Favre once won 4 games in a season.. but they were coming off a 13 win season.)

So, there's this Oakland County, Michigan law enforcement officer who's a professional acquaintance of mine. Nice guy, former Marine. Definitely not a guy you'd want to mess with. "James" has a friend who works in the Detroit Lions front office. Here's what the friend told James: a few years ago, the Lions contacted Bill Parcells about coaching the Detroit Lions. After all, who better to resurrect the toothless Lions than the Big Tuna? After all, Parcells has won two Super Bowls as a coach, went to a third and very nearly took the New York Jets there.

Overall Record: 20-16
Last Week: 2-2
1) Houston Texans @ Green Bay Packers
The Texans were impressive in their dismauling of the Jaguars on Monday Night Football. Many will put the excuse of the Jags 'mailing it in' (which is probably true), but! A win is a win is a win and for Texans fans...that was nice for a change. The Texans will travel to frigid Lambeau Field to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Game time temp is suppose to be anywhere from 10-20 degrees. Being from Houston, let me tell you something....When it's 50 outside, I think "hey this is pretty chilly!". I cannot imagine what playing in 15 degree weather feels like. I know some Texans players have prior experience in playing in the cold, but some don't. I think the Texans will get dominated in this one. Packers are going to be playing like it's a nice sunny day while the Texans are like the icicles along the bottom of the roof, just waiting until it gets warmer to melt away. With that said, Green Bay, Green Bay, Green Bay......unfortunately for Texans fans.

Carolina Panthers (8-3) at Green Bay Packers (5-6)
The Panthers are in a tight race in the NFC South, tied with Tampa and barely ahead of Atlanta. With tough match-ups for all three teams, winning could propel one of them towards the South title. Carolina was assaulted by the Falcons last weekend, and need to rebound against a struggling Packers team. Green Bay was blown out on Monday night by the Saints, giving up 51 points and failing to defend against the big play. Losing to Carolina would severely cripple their chances of winning the mediocre NFC North at 5-7. Aaron Rodgers has played fairly well, but the Packer defense hasn’t backed him up.

As far as I know, the Chicago Bears were supposed to play a game on Sunday. They were supposed to travel to Lambeau Field for a key contest that will surely factor in when determining the NFC North champion. Apparently, Lovie Smith’s team decided to take the day off. There is no other reason for only putting three points on a suspect Packer defense while giving up an astounding 200 rushing yards to a team that had an at-best average ground game. The Bears didn’t show up to play and the Packers took advantage.

The NFL’s oldest rivalry opens up a new chapter at Lambeau Field this Sunday, November 16, 2008. Entitled “After Favre,” this new plot twist leaves fans of both teams anxious but uncertain as to what will unfold in this classic tale. One thing they can expect to see is Kyle Orton under center for the visiting Chicago Bears. After missing the loss against the Titans with an ankle injury, Orton will try and keep his team in first place with a win over the Packers.

Green Bay Packers (4-4) at Minnesota Vikings (4-4)
In a division that will likely send only one team to the playoffs, NFC North divisional match-ups are critical. Both teams are looking to make ground on the division leading Chicago Bears, who face the unbeaten Titans. Green Bay has faltered this season in spite of Aaron Rodgers’ tremendous play at quarterback. Their running game simply hasn’t produced like the Packer teams of previous years. The defense showed up against the Titans last Sunday, but there’s no telling what kind of performance they’ll deliver in any given game.

Green Bay Packers (4-3) at Tennessee Titans (7-0)
Pardon me for asking, but isn’t it just a little early to be rewarding Aaron Rodgers with a fairly hefty contract extension? With this new deal, Rodgers will stay in Packers green and yellow until 2014 and will be paid around $11 million a season. Call me crazy, but I prefer to see my quarterback finish one season before I lock up that kind of money. Rodgers has been impressive, no doubt, and he can justify his new money with a mistake-free performance against the unbeaten Titans. It won’t get any harder for the Packers this season, and since the Bears (with whom they share the division lead) face the pathetic Lions, Green Bay could easily fall from first.

Green Bay Packers 34, Indianapolis Colts 14
I certainly didn’t see this coming. After the trouncing they laid on the Ravens last week, I was convinced the Colts were back and ready to make a run. That’s why the NFL is so great. Indianapolis ran into the buzz saw that was the Packer defense, who forced Peyton Manning into completing only fifty percent of his passes and two interceptions. Indy also uncharacteristically racked up 12 penalties for 110 yards. For a Tony Dungy coached squad, that’s a surprising lack of discipline. Joseph Addai’s absence also was apparent, as back-up Dominic Rhodes only gained 73 yards on the ground, the entirety of Indy’s rushing attack. Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison only had four catches between them, which will almost always end in a Colts loss. At 3-3, the stumbling Colts have Tennessee next week, and their AFC South crown will be on the line.

Indianapolis Colts (3-2) at Green Bay Packers (3-3)
These are the Indianapolis Colts we all know and love to watch. Peyton Manning and his receivers synced up in a beat-down of Baltimore in week six. Marvin Harrison re-discovered his youth, going deep twice for touchdowns while the defense picked off Joe Flacco three times. It might be even scarier this week, as Green Bay’s secondary is questionable with corner Al Harris still out, corner Charles Woodson playing on a bad toe, and safety Atari Bigby doubtful. Manning won’t have much choice either, as running back Joseph Addai isn’t likely to play with a sore hamstring that may or may not be torn. Dominic Rhodes will take the bulk of the carries against the Pack. Don’t blink in this one, or you might miss a Colts touchdown.

It has only taken two weeks for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to go from undefeated and better without Favre to .500 and needing a veteran quarterback. Green Bay Packers (2-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
If you’re a fantasy football player and are wondering if I think Brian Griese will pass for 400 yards again this week, let me fill you in: that won’t happen ever again. There’s no way Green Bay’s defense is that porous against the pass, even if Al Harris is out for an extended period of time. They still have Charles Woodson, who won’t have to chase around Terrell Owens like he did in their loss last week. Their other cover corner Al Harris may be out for the season, but nothing definitive has been announced yet. Recent reports suggest he may even be back by mid-season. Green Bay’s running game needs to find its rhythm with Ryan Grant; otherwise Aaron Rodger’s solid play won’t mean anything.

Big D put a big whoopin’ on Green Bay last night. It wasn’t as high-flying as the game they won versus Philadelphia last Monday night, but Dallas continued their early-season domination. Instead of the pass, Dallas used the run to pound on the Packer defense throughout the game, which opened up plays downfield and in the play action game. Tony Romo wasn’t brilliant, but he was exciting as always, dodging defenders so his receivers can get open.

Dallas Cowboys (2-0) at Green Bay Packers (2-0)
Another week and another Dallas Cowboys game in the spotlight. It’s fortunate for Wade Wilson’s bunch that this game is in September, where they won’t have to deal with any “frozen tundra.” This is another one that looks to be a shootout, as Dallas couldn’t stop Philly last week and Green Bay let Detroit throw their way back into their contest, if only for a few minutes. Dallas is usually strong early in the season, so no one should be surprised if they walk out of this early season test 3-0. However, their real test will come in January. Aaron Rodgers has looked very impressive in his first two NFL starts, but this week the competition is the best in the NFC. If he has another big week, the Favre loyalists should fall right back into their cheese-head line.

Green Bay left Minnesota with a much deserved win, now they visit a Lions team that could only watch in dismay as the Atlanta Falcons gained over 300 yards on the ground. Look for the Pack to leave this contest with two division wins in two games. Look for the Lions to implode early this year.

While watching television, one of her younger houseguests was having difficulty recalling the name of “that heavyset guy” that used to be on Saturday Night Live way back in the day. Why is that whenever someone retires or is having a great career, the first question we all ask is, “where does he rank among the all-time greats?” Why must we always be looking at the historic side of things? LeBron is not the next Michael Jordan and we don’t know if he will be a better all-time player so why worry about it. Can’t we just enjoy LeBron for what he is? Alex Rodriguez is on pace to break every major home run record but I don’t understand why we always have to look at the big picture. From now on I am going to watch A-Rod for today and that’s all. When he hits a homer I am not going to wonder if that was 530 or 531 for his career, I will only care about it how many he has hit that season and if it helped the Yankees win. That is why I will not worry where Brett Favre ranks among the best quarterbacks in NFL history. No, I will just remember the career of Brett because whether you think he is better than John Elway or not you must admit, he was special.

Despite his decision to retire today, Brett Favre is likely to play quarterback in the NFL before all is said and done. Citing mental exhaustion as the primary motivating factor, Favre is leaving the game after having made 253 consecutive regular season starts (275 including playoffs). Not surprisingly, Favre is mentally exhausted, but physically he's still got it. Which leads one to conclude that after a suitable mental Sabbatical period has ensued, Favre will be back and playing QB for somebody, somewhere.

If Brett Favre has really chucked his last off-balance, ill-advised pass downfield into three defenders and an opening the size of a kicking tee while being draped by two hoggies thrice his size, somewhere there's a fat lady singing.
