Greg Jennings
25 December 2011
The Pack is sans Greg Jennings tonight, but since they played without him last week, the other wide-outs will have a better understanding of their roles and how to get open. If Chicago had a better (and deeper) group of corners, they should study the Chiefs’ winning plan and pressure those receivers at the line of scrimmage. Knock them off their routes and maybe you can get a few mis-aimed passes from Rodgers. Maybe. But then again, Jermichael Finley probably goes off and Jordy Nelson probably is on the receiving end of a long bomb. Whoops. The Odds:

Find Nelson and Driver in the middle of the field and find a few shots to take at Greg Jennings when the Steelers drop out of their cover-three shell, which won’t be often. Handing it off to Starks every now and again might remind the Steelers the Pack still has a running back on the roster, which might open up some play-action plays later on. Honestly though, I would just go five-wide and sling it. Who really wants to run against the Steeler front seven? How the Packers should defend the Steeler offense:

I would put them up against any group in the league one through five. Greg Jennings has exploded in this postseason, leading all WR’s in yardage. During the year he had 21 plays of 20 yards or more, so you know he can get down the field in a hurry. His chemistry with Rodgers will pay dividends in the years to come. Veteran Donald Driver is certainly past his prime, but don’t overlook his ability to come up with big plays when the Packers need them most. Jordy Nelson is Green Bay’s version of Wes Welker, able to find his way into the middle of the defense and get yards after the catch. He just gets open. Last but not least is James Jones, who was second on the team in receptions. Aaron Rodgers has a multitude of weapons at his disposal and any of them can get 70-80 yards on a Sunday.

But it doesn’t stop there. Greg Jennings emerged last year as a prolific pass catcher under Brett Favre. It can only mean that with Aaron Rodgers under center, he’s going to get more passes his way. He’s got the speed to be the deep receiver or he can catch the ball on a slant or screen and take it to the house with his speed. Really
