Jacksonville Jaguars

26 December 2009

I have an urge to take the Texans for the win.

(7-7) Jacksonville Jaguars at (9-5) New England Patriots

Anyone want to place a bet as to what Jaguars team we'll going to see on Sunday? They're so wildly inconsistent (backed up by their 7-7 record) that I can't possibly see them stringing two wins in a row to end the season. The Patriots would secure a three or four seed with a win, ensuring them a home game to start the post-season. Bill Belichick's defense will have a stiff challenge trying to slow down the Jacksonville ground attack, but they'll get the win thanks to Brady and the offense.

e team to beat in the NFC, winning in a variety of ways.

(7-6) Miami Dolphins 14
(7-6) Jacksonville Jaguars 10

Jacksonville had control of their playoff destiny. That is, until Miami won in a squeaker. Now the last AFC wildcard spot is up for grabs in a free-for-all. Sorry Jaguars, you had you chance. Chad Henne continues to impress and Ricky Williams continues to shoulder the load without Ronnie Brown.

Standing in their way is Peyton Manning: Crusher of Dreams, Destroyer of Worlds.

Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) at San Francisco 49ers (4-6)

This game has the recipe to be ugly. Jacksonville and Tennessee both love to mercilessly pound the ball at their opponent. The difference will be at the quarterback position. Between Alex Smith and David Garrard, the quarterback that makes the least mistakes will walk away with the win. To me, that means a Jaguars victory as Alex Smith hasn’t shown he’s dependable at all. Keep an eye on these Jags; they’re right in line for a wildcard slot.

What a difference a Matt Hasselbeck makes. The Seahawks shut out the Jekyll and Hyde Jaguars and put up a forty-burger. With the Niners’ loss, the ‘Hawks can still make some noise in the NFC West.

Man up and take the loss.

Seriously. Don't touch him.

(2-2) Jacksonville Jaguars 37
(0-4) Tennessee Titans 17

Um, what teams were on this field? David Garrard threw like the QB that earned his massive contract and Mike Sims-Walker is turning out to be the Jaguars’ best receiver. In Tennessee, things are a mess. Their defense is crumbling after the loss of Albert Haynesworth. If they lose to Indianapolis next week (and they should) and fall to 0-5, look for Vince Young to take over for Kerry Collins. Even if its not Collins’ fault, the team needs a spark.

Arizona Cardinals (0-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)

After dropping their opener to San Francisco, the Cardinals need this game to keep pace in the NFC West. Kurt Warner best find his offense again, or the Cards will be two games behind in the West race. Jacksonville’s owner is apparently already on Tim Tebow watch, thanks to their craptacular ticket sales and impending TV blackouts.

The team then dominated a displaced looking Jacksonville Jaguars team at home in the first Monday Night game in franchise history.

Still...not overly impressive.

Week 14 came and the Texans flew into frosty Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. A Packers team that hasn't played well most of the season, but anytime you play in a historic stadium like Lambeau and in single digit temperatures....it's going to be tough!

If you’re looking to predict the outcome of the Bears match-up this weekend, take a look at the last three contests for Chicago. They were stomped by Green Bay, then did the stomping against St. Louis, and were underfoot again versus Minnesota. Following that pattern, the Chicago Bears should whip out their steel-toed boots when the Jaguars come to town this Sunday. Then again, when do these Bears ever follow the formula?

Week 13 is in the books as we are getting closer to the playoffs in the National Football League (still 4 weeks away, but with the way this season has flown bye, it won't be long!). Before I begin I want to apologize to my 3 readers for not keeping up with the Fallout Report. I'll have it on time (every Tuesday) from now until the playoffs. With that said, let's see how I did!

4) Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

I bet ESPN is stoked to have this game on Monday Night Football this week. Two disappointing 4-7 teams go at it here. Listening to Houston sports talk radio this past week, the fans are still pumped for the first ever MNF game at Reliant Stadium, but it could have been so much more if the Texans could have performed better up to this point. Reliant should be filled or ESPN and management might think twice about bringing Monday Night Football back to Houston anytime soon. Onto the game, both teams have had some good games against each other. The Jaguars are the Texans only other 'real' rivalry in the AFC South. You could say the Titans since they use to be the Oilers...but the Texans have only defeated them 2-3 times. Forget about the Colts (Texans have only won once against them in their franchise). However the Texans have defeated the Jags 5-6 times in their existence. Both teams can forget about the playoffs this season. So really this game will be all about pride. I think the Texans hosting their first ever MNF game will still be pumped and I think they'll take it to the Jaguars early. I'll be a homer here and take the Texans. Do ESPN proud, Houston.

Tennessee Titans 24, Jacksonville Jaguars 14

Jeff Fisher should find a game on the Titans’ schedule to lose, honestly. Not to a serious contender or a trash heap, but a mid-level team that could use the confidence but can’t do anything with it. We all saw what happened with the Patriots. Tennessee was down in this one early 14-3, but rallied with 21 unanswered to remain undefeated. Kerry Collins has been called on to win games, and he has delivered expertly. Vince Young wouldn’t have been able to do that. That's all I'm sayin'.

Week 11 was one of the more interesting weeks in the NFL this season. A game ended in a 11-10 score for the first time in NFL history, a game ended in a tie and we also saw 'America's Team' get back on track with their star quarterback at the helm. I'll get to that and more as this week's Fallout report kicks off.......riiiiight now!

2) Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars

The Titans have been the best team in football record wise all year now they take their undefeated record into Jacksonville to take on the 4-5 Jaguars. I've picked the Titans to lose the last two weeks in my yahoo picks, but for some reason my gut is picking them again to lose this week. Now if the Titans win again, I'll have to strangle my gut and put it in a choke hold. A couple of reasons I think the Titans could lose this one: 1) Titans will not go undefeated forever. 2) The Jaguars have had some shaky bumps in the road this season and I think the team will play hard for Coach Del Rio this week against Division opponents Tennessee.

layer of depth behind Clinton Portis, who should be saved for an eventual push for the playoffs.

Jacksonville Jaguars 24, Denver Broncos 17

Denver, behind the skill of Jay Cutler, took the opening possession 80 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the game. After that opening score, the Broncos turned the ball over on three of their next four possessions, giving Jacksonville opportunities to jump on the board. Denver didn’t get another touchdown until the fourth quarter, when Jacksonville had already built a sizeable lead. It was a return to form for the Jags, as they finally discovered their running game with Maurice Jones-Drew. Fred Taylor was out most of the game after being injured in the first quarter, but returned late to spell MJD in key situations. Denver had their own injury issues, as wide-out Brandon Stokley left with a concussion, leaving Brandon Marshall as their sole first day starter. Receiver Eddie Royal and tight end Tony Scheffler were both out with injuries, which dampened a normally fiery offensive attack. While Marshall is one of the best young receivers in the NFL, he can’t be expected to be the only target for Cutler. Jacksonville was able to double up on him and force Denver to go in other directions. In the end, this was a bigger win for Jacksonville than it was a loss for Denver. However, now that San Diego is behind them at 3-3, Mike Shanahan might beg to differ.

I’m sure Bill Parcells will too.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) at Denver Broncos (4-1)

The way preseason predictions were going; these two teams should be in the opposite positions. For Jacksonville, their running game hasn’t come close to the pounding success it was last season. That means the pressure is on David Garrard and his under-achieving wide receiver corps to keep drives alive. As long as that’s the case, don’t expect the Jaguars to win many games this year; they simply don’t have the talent at wide-out to keep it going. The defense is slacking, giving up at least twenty points in each of their last four games. Jacksonville is built on running the ball and tough defense, so major problems will arise when neither aspect of their game is performing. As for the high-scoring Denver Broncos, they’re coming off an odd showing against Tampa Bay. Their offense, normally a lock for 24 points, only managed sixteen against a tough Tampa defensive unit. The Denver defense however, showed some gumption and shut down the Buc offense, allowing only thirteen. That’s a great sign for Coach Mike Shanahan, as it proves his offense won’t have to win every game by themselves. This will be a true test for both teams and will go a long way in settling their positions in the AFC playoff race.

ith great consistency, and that should keep Arizona in the NFC West lead.

Pittsburgh Steelers 26, Jacksonville Jaguars 21

Much like Tennessee v. Baltimore, this was a contest between two heavy-hitting teams that normally focus on running the ball effectively and not asking their quarterbacks to do too much. That philosophy changed for Pittsburgh out of necessity, as their top two running backs were out. Ben Roethlisberger showed yet again why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league by making big plays in big situations, though he still took way too many hits. He kept the Steelers in this one, and led them to victory late against a stout Jacksonville defense. Ben needs to focus on getting the ball out quickly and picking his spots to make plays in the pocket. Every defense knows he stands in the pocket too long, so they’ll be sure to send blitzes his way to try and capitalize. Jacksonville started off strong, with corner Rashean Mathis picking off Ben’s first throw and running it back for six, but the Jaguar offense didn’t help him out at all. QB David Garrard had a decent game passing, but the running game never found its stride against a vicious Pittsburgh front seven. They only accumulated 38 yards on 19 carries, a paltry sum for a normally successful backfield. The Jags can’t afford to lose these games, as Indianapolis is due for a winning streak.

ns, helping the Steelers overcome their offensive woes and leading them to a 26-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday night. Roethlisberger finished 26-of-41, rebounding from an interception on his third pass that Rashean Mathis returned 72 yards for a score. Pittsburgh (4-1) snapped a four-game losing streak against Jacksonville. Mewelde Moore, filling in for Parker, ran 17 times for 99 yards.

3) Pittsburgh Steelers @ Jacksonville Jaguars

A battle of two teams that met twice last season (one in the regular season/one in the post season) with Jaguars taking both in Pittsburgh. I still remember the regular season game last season between these two with the snow falling, what a game. Fast forward to now and you have a Steelers team banged up. Willie Parker is still out and back-up Rashard Mendenhall is done for the season with a fractured shoulder received against the Ravens. Gary Russell and Najeh Davenport were re-signed by the Steel men to pick up the scraps in the running game with Mewelde Moore starting this Sunday against the Jags. These two teams know each other, that's no secret. I have a gut feeling however that the Steelers will come out on top in this one. I have four reasons. (Yes four!) 1) Just like the Ravens, I think the adrenaline will carry over from Monday Night. 2) Good teams find ways to win with injuries. Steelers are a Super Bowl caliber team by many, this will be a good test. 3) The Houston Texans horrible defense were able to stop Taylor/Jones pretty nicely last week. I think the Steelers review what the Texans did and try to copy it. 4) Three out of the last 4 Sunday Night Games the upset has won. That's right. Every Sunday Night game besides the Packers/Cowboys, the upset team has won. And I have a little superstition in me. I'm picking the Steelers in this one.

pa under 20 should be enough to get the Broncos to 4-1.

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)

Another smash-mouth affair airs this Sunday night, as the Steelers look to avenge their playoff loss to the Jaguars. (Is it just me, or do the Steelers and Cowboys get a ton of primetime games?) The problem is Pittsburgh may be too banged up to do the job. After losing starting lineman Kendall Simmons and rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall for the season, the Steeler running game is running on empty. So much that they resigned Najeh Davenport, whom they cut shortly after drafting Mendenhall. Willie Parker isn’t expected to return until Oct. 19th, so Big Ben Roethlisberger will take to the air against the Jacksonville defense. The no-huddle provided a much-needed spark versus the Ravens last Monday night, so it should make a repeat appearance.

ther week, so look for tight end Jeremy Shockey to factor largely into the Saints passing attack.

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) at Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

Jacksonville is a team many football “experts” picked to dethrone the Colts as AFC South champions. If that is still going to happen after a disappointing start, this is the game to do it. Losing to Indy puts Jacksonville at 0-3, essentially three games behind Manning’s crew counting the head-to-head loss. David Garrard has thrown three interceptions in two games this season, which is as many as he threw in twelve games in ’07. He needs to return to form if the Jags have any AFC South title aspirations.  The Colts have had trouble establishing their ground game, as Joseph Addai only has 64 yards in two games. Look for them to stretch the field early to set up their ground game late.

Buffalo Bills (1-0) at Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)

The Bills shocked everyone by dismantling perennial NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks. If Dick Jauron’s crew wants to capitalize on New England’s misfortune, beating a hard-nosed Jaguars squad will put them in the perfect position. Jacksonville is having offensive line troubles, which will make their renowned running game more difficult to maintain.

Go Jacksonville Jaguars! I am so very impressed with David Garrard and Maurice Jones-Drew. Besides their impressive, spirited performances, I can rationalize rooting for them a few ways. I went to college in the great state of Florida and Maurice Jones-Drew is a California boy that went to UCLA. I mean seriously, David Garrard is a class act so how can you not root for him!?
