Jason Campbell

27 October 2009

edskins offense is inept at best even with a recently retired Sherm Lewis at the helm and Jason Campbell is getting close to being benched for Todd Collins just to get a spark into the offense. Sorry Jim Zorn. The Eagles get by the ‘Skins with a sloppy win, but a win nonetheless. Donovan McNabb wasn’t at his best, but it was good enough to take advantage of multiple Redskin turnovers. They need to clean up their offense if they want to make a playoff run.

I can’t imagine Zorn or Jason Campbell’s jobs are safe for long. A do-over in DC is coming this offseason. Welcome out of the loser’s club Carolina.

What could be better? After the ‘Skins attempted to bring in every other QB possible, Jason Campbell needs to prove he belongs at the starting position in Washington. A win over the Giants in week one will certainly help his cause. Clinton Portis should have another solid year, but the real story will be on defense. Signing DT Albert Haynesworth and CB DeAngelo Hall in the first few hours of free agency, owner Dan Synder returned to his “buying a Super Bowl” philosophy. If their defense isn’t much improved with those additions, Washington could be the bottom-feeder in the NFC East.

Will NCAA D1 football get a playoff system?

For me, it's not about the money.

The money that schools and bowls make off of the games isn't relevant for me in any way. I make the journey to Auburn once a year (if I'm lucky), and I fork out the money for the overpriced nose-bleed seats. Sure, I'll buy a pricey hot-dog and soda, but that's about the extent of my monetary investment into the sport. The rest of the season I kick back on the couch and watch from the heated comfort of my home, and I doubt I will ever make that expensive post-season ticket purchase (unless my Tigers go to Nashville, or somewhere like that).

The Redskins have made it very clear that Jason Campbell is their quarterback, but during his tenure, he hasn’t at all looked like the quarterback of the future. He’s had very few moments of brilliance and any that he does have is overshadowed by his lousy play. When Campbell was injured last year. Todd Collins came in to relieve him. Collins played miraculously in his short time with the Skins and I think he may force a quarterback controversy in Washington. Campbell may be QB1 now, but after seeing how good Collins can be, Campbell may be in trouble of losing his starting job. The Skins have a new head coach now. Joe Gibbs is gone and in comes Jim Zorn. Zorn may not have as much faith in Campbell as Gibbs did. What also makes things interesting is the fact that the Redskins drafted star quarterback out of Hawaii Colt Brennan. Could his drafting be a sign that Campbell’s days as the Redskin’s QB1 are numbered? We’ll just have to wait and see.
