Jimmy Clausen

10 October 2010

Julius Peppers earned his money again today, getting pressure on Jimmy Clausen and intercepting a pass off his own deflection. Brian Urlacher took it away late after Armanti Edwards failed to bring in a pass. (Tillman pulled in another in garbage time.) Israel Idonije notched three sacks of Clausen on the day, getting the benefit of increased playing time after the Bears cut Mark Anderson.

inebackers are their strength, but they can't make up for all their deficiencies.

Starting rookie Jimmy Clausen for the third week, the Panthers are going to be even more one-dimensional today. All-Pro receiver Steve Smith is out for the game, which means a glut of nobodies will start on the outside for Carolina. Bear corners will have it easy today, which means Lovie Smith will likely send a load of blitzes towards Clausen to rattle the rookie early. If he hadn't been playing hard enough, Julius Peppers' return to Carolina will be motivation enough to put Clausen on his back several times. (I'm calling it now since tackle Jeff Otah is out this week.) I'm ignoring Tommie Harris until he decides to show up on the field.

Congratulations to Carolina for deciding to end the Matt Moore experiment and to start Jimmy Clausen next week. Your season will still be disappointing. My 6-10 prediction is looking awfully optimistic right now.

eteran starting quarterback Jake Delhomme and handed the keys to untested Matt Moore while drafting Jimmy Clausen out of Notre Dame to be the QB of the future. Fox is on the hot seat without question, but his offense will be very predictable. Once he returns from breaking his arm again, Steve Smith (douchebag) will get double-coverage all day and whatever quarterback is under center will hand it off to DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart 35-40 times a game. Rinse. Repeat.

Earl Thomas is a fantastic safety and maybe a better corner. They didn't take Jimmy Clausen, but they should feel comfortable with Matt Hasselbeck under center with Okung protecting him.

-Tim Tebow is a Denver Bronco. After trading back twice in the first round and drafting wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, the Broncos traded back up to draft Tebow as their quarterback of the future before the Bills made their move. This is Josh McDaniels' giant middle finger to the rest of the NFL as he says "Watch what I can do with this guy." I feel bad for Brady Quinn, who might get the six games in-between Kyle Orton's tenure and the start of Tim Tebow's. Denver made the most of their multitude of picks and turned it into a bright future with replacements for the exiled Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall.

The real question mark at quarterback is Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen. If you look at which teams have needs at QB, Clausen shouldn't make it out of the top ten. Other reports have him falling into the 20's and perhaps even to 30 for the Minnesota Vikings, who would be ecstatic. Seattle (picks 6 & 14), San Francisco (13 & 17), and Cleveland (7) are my likely destinations for Clausen.

I still think Jake makes noise this season. Brian counters with turf toe Jimmy Clausen and the Rodgers brothers out in Oregon State. That's about it, he likes AJ Green as well, but not many else in the league do. Okay, I lied, AJ Green is good. But really, outside of that Brian is a few points or a Clausen injury from being under 100 points a game. Cherns rolls this week. Spread: Cherns -24.5
