Kellen Davis

tching Greg Olsen and the veteran Desmond Clark and into the starting line-up comes fourth-year man Kellen Davis. Davis has only ten regular season catches during his time in the league, but steps into the starting 11 because of his mixture of size and blocking ability, something the Martz offense will utilize to great effect. Kellen has also shown enough as a pass-catcher that he might surprise defenses deep in the red zone. Behind Davis is the newcomer Matt Spaeth, formerly of the Steelers. Spaeth will be what Manumaleuna was supposed to be last season: a large (6’7”, 260 lbs.) tight end that can fend off defensive ends at the line of scrimmage and help clear the path for the runner. After spending four years in Pittsburgh, it is clear Spaeth knows how to run-block. He’s never had more than 17 catches in a season though. Rookie Kyle Adams found his way onto the roster after the Bears released veteran Desmond Clark, but he’ll primarily play at the fullback slot, coming out of the backfield. I liked the energy I saw from Adams in the preseason, both on offense and on special teams. Though in this system, the tight end is clearly not a focus.

of wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias, defensive linemen Henry Melton and Jarron Gilbert and tight end Kellen Davis, at least two should be cut, but three is definitely likely. Iglesias is a waste of a roster spot and can't beat out Earl Bennett on the depth chart despite Bennett's inability to get healthy. Melton and Gilbert need to show some explosiveness at the line of scrimmage or one of these 2009 draft picks will be out of a job.

While jumping, he lasered a throw to Kellen Davis in the end zone for Chicago’s first score in the second quarter. Down seven in the fourth quarter, he tossed it to rookie receiver Johnny Knox, who went up and made sure the ball hit him between the numbers, coming down with it in the end zone for the tying score.
