Los Angeles Clippers

2 September 2008

Now that the NBA offseason is nearing a close, and, thankfully, training camp will begin in a matter of weeks, I’m going to take the next few posts to begin to delve into the Pacific Division, the moves that each team made, how I think they’ll fair, etc.

Well, it's taken me a minute to write this second part, mostly due to the fact that I’ve been swamped with work. Some good news, well, for me anyway, is that this blog will soon become available as a podcast. I’m working out the details but a big thanks to Bill Takeshita for getting me into it.

The Clippers are bringing in Jay Dub, the NBA Eminem, Mr. White Chocolate. Yes, Jason Williams joins a completely revamped Clippers squad and will get a lot of back up, and probably a decent chunk of starters minutes when the inevitable Baron Davis injury happens. I like it.

Who would have known that one of the Clippers’ best trading chips would be the “option to exchange second-round picks” (OESRP). They used their 2010 OESRP to net themselves Marcus Camby. Thursday, they just used their 2011 OESRP to acquire Steve Novak from the Houston Rockets.

It took less than a day for Artest to start something. Yao expressed his concerns about chemistry in an interview while in China, and Artest, without thinking (as if he ever does) went ahead and responded saying that he's "ghetto" and is the same Ron Artest he's always been and will never change. Nice. Again, I'm relieved he's someone else's headache.

Man, what an offseason. Who would’ve thought that after the whirlwind season and trade deadline we just experienced, we would have an equally crazy summer?

In one year, we’ve seen moved: The Kid and Jesus, Pau, Shaq, Bibby, J Kidd, Big Ben, Wally World, Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, Jermaine O’Neal, Marcus Camby, Richard Jefferson, and T.J. Ford.

So, apparently the Clippers have gone out and signed Ricky Davis to a multi-year contract. That's Ricky Buckets to those in the know, and it's buckets because that's what Ricky likes to do. Shoot and score.

Okay, first things first, been going through a few things these past two weeks so sorry this hasn’t been updated for a while. Thank you to all of those people out there who are still checking the site out. I promise that the updates will start coming more frequently (I’m shooting for at least 3 times a week) despite the fact that the NBA is in its offseason.

Bringing Marcus Camby into the fold, and to a lesser extent letting Corey Maggette walk, catapults the Clippers into the upper echelon of the best defensive squads in the league. A frontline of Camby and Kaman is not only large, but also block happy. Remember, Camby is only two years removed from his Defensive Player of the year award, and, statistically, actually had a better season last year.

The Lakers season ended on a sour note, and Lakers news doesn’t really pick up again until Kobe starts really getting into his role as a do-everything leader on the Olympic team next month. So, being an L.A. boy, and due to the fact that the draft was last night, I’m going to switch up my blog for the summer to detail any happenings of my three favorite teams: the Lakers, Clippers and Suns (although, I’m not too fond of anyone on the Suns but Nash.)

who I'm talking about, first of all, shame on you, and second, that would be Sam Cassell of the Los Angeles Clippers who dropped a cool 32 points, 6 boards and 7 assists on the Phoenix Suns last night. And thanks to my Aunt and Uncle, I was able to have excellent seats at the game.

Popular bands wrote songs about them and select celebrities lined the courtside seats.

The Los Angeles Clippers came to town in 1984 from San Diego (and Buffalo before that). Nobody paid too much attention at first and you could basically get free tickets with the purchase of 5 gallons of gasoline. They’ve had their peaks and valleys over the years and enjoy larger attendance numbers today but you can still get tickets pretty cheap.  Sometimes still free with the purchase of something else.

ladelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trailblazers, Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle Sonics, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, New Orleans, and I apologize if I left anyone out, who cow towe to team owners, peer groups, and making money, glitz, glamor, being effeminate, etc.  There are also professional basketball players who cow towe to their concept of self.  They always go to their strength.  Their strength resides in their hearts and minds. They believe in who they are because they know who they are.  Money, team owners, peer groups, glitz, glamor, being effeminate, etc. are particles of dust when juxtaposing them to their desire to perform to their greatest abilities as a professional basketball player.
