Mario Williams

13 March 2012

n’t have the patience for an introduction, so let’s just get to the news of the day!

-Mario Williams is all up in Buffalo as we speak, and he won’t leave unless he turns down a boatload of cash. If you’re even thinking about heading to Buffalo, you know what they’re going to pay you. You just want them to pay for a first class flight too before you sign the dotted line. The defensive end is going to be a very rich man. (Richer, really.) Likely joining him in upstate New York will be Saints wide-out Robert Meachem. Not a bad haul thus far for the lowly Bills. (Edit: Mario IS apparently leaving Buffalo without a deal and Meachem has signed with the Chargers. Well done Bills.)

some nagging injury issues and some off-the-field baggage, but he’s the best on the market.

Mario Williams, DE
There’s a LOT of internet and radio hype surrounding the Bears and their need to go after the Texan. I just don’t see the financial sense here. Yes, I’ve seen the Giants and their swarm of defensive ends, but there’s a major difference here: the Giants DRAFTED those guys. They even get hometown discounts in order to keep them together. They don’t spend outrageous money (which is what Williams will command) in order to secure the position. With Peppers already locked into a mega-deal, spending the cash on Williams hinders their ability to bring in a difference maker elsewhere.

the Texan offense will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Texan defense is led by defensive end Mario Williams, who has justified his number one overall selection in the past two seasons. The linebacking corps is especially strong, led by DeMeco Ryans, but they'll be without 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year Brian Cushing, who will be suspended the first four games after violating the league's performance enhancing substance policy. (Unless the Texans' owner convinces Roger Goodell otherwise.) CB Dunta Robinson left for Atlanta, leaving a hole in the Texan secondary, but if Williams has another monster year it will disguise their deficiencies.

the Texans will bring with them into this season.

Their defense is lead by defensive end Mario Williams. Many people were shocked when the Texans picked Williams over Reggie Bush in the 2006 draft, but those skeptics have been quickly silenced as Williams has had two miraculous years and Reggie Bush... well, we’ll get to him in a different blog. Other then Williams, their defense is lacking in star power, but what they lack in that area they make up for in grit and determination. They can and will get sacks and if you’re not careful they will sneak up on you and beat you. It’s a solid defense that with a couple more star players could be one of the more feared defenses in the league.
