Mark Sanchez

17 November 2011

Tim Tebow is 3-1 this season a starter and won his last start despite only completing two passes. Mark Sanchez is under fire yet again after getting shelled by the Patriots in what ended up being a blow-out loss at the Meadowlands. Thank you NFL!

They’re relying on Mark Sanchez’s progression too much and are counting on Plaxico Burress to give them a deep threat so far removed from his game action. I’m not sure either will happen to the level that is necessary for this team to make it to the AFC title game again, much less the Super Bowl. LaDainian Tomlinson will have even less gas than what he showed in 2010, leaving Shonn Greene the lone playmaker in the backfield. Without Brad Smith, I assume the offense will lose some of its explosion. On Rex Ryan’s defense, Muhammad Wilkerson was drafted to get some penetration from the end spot, but they let Shaun Ellis go to New England, taking his 4.5 sacks with him. Not a great subtraction for a team struggling to get to the passer without always blitzing. Though even after failing to land Asomugha in free agency, they still brought back Antonio Cromartie to pair with Revis, so I guess constant blitzing is still on the menu. I just can’t believe this defense can win enough games to keep them in contention. Oh, and I really hate them. Really. Almost as much as I hate the Patriots. Almost.

the Steeler defense, then the Jets could easily walk out of Heinz Field with a win.

No offense to Mark Sanchez, but even after his impressive playoff run I can't trust him over Roethlisberger. With two Super Bowl wins on his resume, Big Ben has the experience to lead the Steelers to points on those late drives. Though so did Manning and Brady.

Patriots drop another depressing home game in the playoffs and the Jets live to talk another week. Mark Sanchez played mistake-free football, which is exactly what Rex Ryan needs going into Pittsburgh next week.

New England averaged over 32 points a game during the regular season, so Mark Sanchez can’t have the first half he did last week. He won’t be able to recover. He needs help from the running game and more than anything else, he needs his receivers to recover from the raging dropsy epidemic they’ve suffered from all year. Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes need to help Sanchez out by catching passes deep. The defense is going to give up at least 24 points. Rex Ryan’s offense needs to show up or his team is going home.

All they had to do was keep the return under control. FAIL. Still, I have to give credit to Mark Sanchez for overcoming a horrendous first half, closing out the game with three on-target passes to set up the field goal. Oh well, now the Jets can head to New England to get their collective taints kicked in by the Patriots.

fter sharing the carries with Thomas Jones for an entire season, so he needs to be unleashed today. Mark Sanchez is obviously the wildcard in this match-up. Indianapolis wants their opponents to pass, as it allows Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis to get up-field and down the quarterback for a loss. He has to keep his mistakes to the bare minimum today, as getting into a shoot-out with Indy is not advised.

26 December 2010

Chicago’s vaunted cover-two defense made Mark Sanchez look like Peyton Manning for most of the day, allowing him to complete 24 of his 37 passes. The late pick aside, Sanchez had all day to throw from the pocket and found whatever open receiver he wanted. Chicago’s front four was non-existent on pass-rushing downs as the Jet offensive line dominated when they went through the air. However, the jets were just as punishing on the ground, putting up 124 tough yards on the Bear defenders. For a defense with so much hype, Lovie Smith’s crew fell flat today. Luckily, they had some help from the offense, who came through when they needed to.

ter Darelle Revis left the game with a hamstring injury and made the Patriot defense look mediocre. Mark Sanchez played his best game as a pro, rebounding from the awful week one performance. It seems the AFC East isn't the Patriots' playground. On a personal note, I actually cheered for the Patriots in this one. I needed twelve showers.

When you have twice as many penalty yards as passing yards, that's a problem. Mark Sanchez did not look like even an average NFL QB. Let's see how much talk we hear out of New York this week. Baltimore held tough despite multiple turnovers and found a way to win, which is what Super Bowl-hopeful teams do.

25 August 2010

In his second season, quarterback Mark Sanchez is hoping to prove all those pundits (as well as his loud-mouthed head coach) correct. GM Mike Tanenbaum has pulled out all the stops to improve the roster during the offseason, signing LaDainian Tomlinson, trading for Santonio Holmes and drafting Joe McKnight of USC. Shonn Greene is officially the lead back, but it's not known whether he can handle that amount of punishment. Braylon "Dropsies" Edwards gets open downfield but too often doesn't make the catch.

the way to a 30-17 loss.

After a Colt field goal started the second quarter, an 80 yard pass from Mark Sanchez to Braylon Edwards put the Jets on top 7-3. Responding to another Colt 3-pointer, wide-out Brad Smith tossed a 45-yarder to Jericho Cotchery to set up a touchdown to Dustin Keller, stretching the lead to 14-6. From there, Manning whipped out his leather-skinned scalpel, switching to surgical mode in a 26 of 39, 377 yard performance.

On the offensive side of the ball, Ryan must ensure rookie QB Mark Sanchez isn't put in dangerous situations. If all goes to plan the Jets will have 40-plus rushing attempts with Shonn Greene and Thomas Jones, keeping Sanchez somewhere in the 18-24 pass attempt range. Any more than that and the Jets cannot win.

Rookie Mark Sanchez did throw a pick, but he later made up for it with a touchdown. Shonn Greene has the tools to take over the starting role next season, giving this offense some much-needed explosiveness. Not only did I think the Jets would have problems matching points with the high-flying Chargers (probably accurate), but I didn’t think their defense could hold them in check like this. Well done Rex Ryan, you’ve proved me wrong.

Their Jets have the number one defense and number running game in the NFL, but Mark Sanchez is the key to the offense's success. His first step is not making mistakes, second is putting up points. Darelle Revis should have been the defensive player of the year, but he'll have his hands full with a probably match-up on the 6'5" Vincent Jackson.

From there it was all Jets. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez completed 12 of his 15 passes for 182 yards, including a well-called bootleg where he found tight end Dustin Keller for 45 yards and a score. Sanchez was backed-up by 164 combined yards on the ground from rookie back Shonn Greene and veteran Thomas Jones. Most importantly, Sanchez didn't turn the ball over.

New York's offensive success hinges on the play (or lack thereof) of Mark Sanchez. If he has to throw the ball more than 20-22 times, the Jets are going to lose. He puts too many throws up for grabs, throws the Bengals will intercept. Cincy needs to shut down Thomas Jones and the NY running game to force Sanchez into obvious passing downs.

Carson Palmer made solid throws, but his receivers did nothing to help with their numerous drops. Mark Sanchez wasn't asked to do much as the Jets ran the ball 57 times for over 250 yards. Next week (in another wildcard round rematch), the Bengals won't be sitting Cedric Benson and will be throwing everything at the rookie Sanchez.

Carson Palmer should not be out there for more than a half. If Mark Sanchez doesn't throw four interceptions against an underrated Bengal secondary, the Jets get this win.

and is coming off a freak win against the Eagles while the Jets have lost their last three outings. Mark Sanchez has been launching interceptions left and right with eight picks in those losses. If they fall in Oakland, the Rex Ryan honeymoon will officially be over. For the Raiders, the rest of this season will be spent deciding if JaMarcus Russell is their quarterback of the future. Hasn’t looked like it to me. Oh Oakland, keep on suckin’!

Oh Mark Sanchez, you’re SO not ready yet. His lack of experience will start to hurt him this season as teams see more film and recognize his tendencies. He’ll still be a good quarterback in the league, but right now he’s going to have some huge growing pains. Dick Jauron may have saved his job for a few weeks, thanks to a great performance from back-up QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who came in after Trent Edwards left the game with a concussion.

The Dolphins just want to climb closer to .500. Mark Sanchez will need to rebound from a very rookie performance last weekend. He’s up against an underrated and pass-rush-happy Miami defense. Coach Tony Sparano wants his team to build off their 38-10 dismantling of the Bills last week in which Chad Henne was efficient and protected the football. His second start needs to be better if Miami is to win.

They have a rookie head coach in Rex Ryan and they’re starting a rookie quarterback in Mark Sanchez. Houston’s lackluster defense (aside from Mario Williams of course) should be a good warm-up for Sanchez. Expect Ryan to run the ball with speedy Leon Washington, the veteran Thomas Jones, and rookie Shonn Greene. A .500 season could the best the Jets could hope for.
