PFFT. I’m glad this turned out to be less of a game, because if it had been overly dramatic I wouldn’t stop hearing about it all week. OUR F###ING FACE TEBOW!!!!

(6-8) Philadelphia Eagles 45
(8-6) New York Jets 19
Yet another New York team drops a key game. The Jets defense got absolutely roasted, giving up a 28-0 lead to the Eagles with just under ten minutes left in the second quarter. Mark Sanchez had another pedestrian performance, tossing two picks and failing to get his team in the endzone. Each team had four turnovers, but the difference was Philly’s ability to turn those opportunities into touchdowns. I can’t believe they have a chance to win the division.

Anybody else think either team could lay a fat egg in this game? I wouldn’t be surprised at any outcome, to be perfectly honest. I could see Sanchez tossing three interceptions or three touchdowns. Michael Vick could tear off chunks of yardage on the ground against a blitzing man-coverage defense. Just enjoy this one, because the resulting storylines will be magnificent.(10-3) Baltimore Ravens at

For the Bills and Jets, this game is a chance to get back into the AFC Wild Card hunt, since neither team will be able to catch up to the Patriots. It would be more interesting if the Jets hadn’t absolutely pounded the Bills in Buffalo only three weeks ago, but alas, we’re probably in for more of the same. Rumors of an out in the Ryan Fitzpatrick contract are swirling heavily. He needs to play really well down this stretch in order to avoid being dropped like a mediocre hat at the end of the year.(7-3) New England Patriots at

Don’t look now, but with a win the Broncos could get to .500 and move into second place in the AFC West, a loss behind Oakland at 5-4. I could not be any more excited to see the Tim Tebow show in action tonight. John Fox has taken great lengths to make Tebow feel at home by incorporating the read option into the Bronco offense, letting Tebow run to his heart’s content. (Though how’d you like to be a wide-out in an offense that runs 55 times a game?) Thankfully Fox’s defense has shown up to work with an attitude the past few weeks, led by rookie sack-machine Von Miller, who’s getting plenty of DROY talk.

Poor Jets. You guys built this game up to be your Super Bowl and you were trounced. For each of Mark Sanchez’s “semi-decent” games he manages to toss out two of these clunkers. The Jets are just too dependent on that defense. They’ll be on the outside of the playoffs, which will likely ruin through New England yet again.

For a game to finish with this score after 3-0 at the half the offenses needed help and they got it. This game was a turnover-filled mess. Ryan Fitzpatrick was highly inaccurate and managed to toss two interceptions that utterly killed his team’s drives, letting the Jets get extra possessions and dominate the clock. Head here for my in-depth analysis of this game.

AFC CHampionship: 5:30 PM ET, CBS

(13-5) New York Jets at
(13-4) Pittsburgh Steelers

The Breakdown:

Call me crazy, but something tells me this won't be a shoot-out. Just a gut feeling I have. When the Jets won in Pittsburgh during the regular season, the Steelers were without Troy Polamalu and tight end Heath Miller. This time around, Pittsburgh has those cogs back and functional as the less talkative than usual Jets come in after knocking Peyton Manning and Tom Brady out of the playoffs. Pittsburgh's offense has been erratic this season, so today they'll need to keep it steady with regular doses of Rashard Mendenhall and Heath Miller. With the Jet corners playing so well lately, it's hard to imagine Hines Ward or Mike Wallace finding too many openings. Wallace is fast enough that he could separate from Cromartie on occasion, but Ben's going to need to recognize that as it happens. The big plays could be there, but they'll be hard to find. They should try to push around the Jet front seven in order to get a win today. Try to avoid letting Ben take too many unnecessary hits (though he will anyway, despite their efforts).

(14-3) New England Patriots 21

Ugh. It’s finally over and I’m still upset. I mean, I’m happy the Patriots got owned, but I didn’t need to see (or hear) the Jets for another week. After an early interception from Brady (the first in nine years apparently) that resulted in a (sorta) missed field goal, the Patriots got on the board with a Shayne Graham field goal. In the second quarter, the Jets bounced back and put two touchdowns on the board, taking an 11-point lead into halftime. It was shocking to see the vaunted Patriot offense struggle to put together back-to-back positive plays. Rex Ryan’s defense superbly executed their pass coverage, leaving Brady in the pocket for the Jet pass rush to (eventually) get there. When the corners cover that well, who needs a good pass rush?

4:30 PM ET, CBS

(12-5) New York Jets at
(14-2) New England Patriots

The Breakdown:

Can this game just start already? I can’t breathe through this thick hype. As much drama and trash-talking has led up to this game (punctuated nicely by Wes Welker’s “foot” press conference), the New England Patriots start their playoff run as big favorites over their talkative division rival. Tom Brady has had arguably his best year as a pro in a season where the Pats traded away their number one receiver early on. You saw the difference without Randy Moss when Brady lit up the Jets for 45 points in a blow-out. Without Moss, the Jets have no one focus on defense besides for Wes Welker, who still finds a way to get open anyway.

Kinda.(12-5) New York Jets 17
(10-7) Indianapolis Colts 16

The Colt defense did their job (except on the final drive after the special teams unit put them in a hole) but the offense couldn’t find the gaps in the Jet coverage in order to put up the points they needed. Eventually you’ve got to put some blame on Manning (who short-armed it on third down late), but his receivers let him down on Saturday. I don’t care if Darelle Revis was on him, but Reggie Wayne needs to get the ball sometime. He caught one pass for ONE yard. Simply unacceptable. The Colts didn’t have enough healthy wide-outs to ignore a Pro-Bowler like Wayne for an entire game. Why couldn’t they just call a few more plays designed to get Wayne open? Wayne was upset after the game ended and rightfully so. It was unacceptable.

Just like me!8:00 PM ET, NBC
(11-5) New York Jets at
(10-6) Indianapolis ColtsThe Breakdown:

This game may just come down to the quarterbacks. Peyton Manning has carried his team to the playoffs after stumbling mid-way through the season. Now he faces a Rex Ryan defense that he has taken apart in every meaningful game in which he’s faced them. Even without his Anthony Gonzalez, Austin Collie or go-to guy Dallas Clark, Manning has enough weapons in the arsenal to take advantage of a Jet defense that just can’t manufacture the pressure to get him off his game. If they blitz, he’ll read it pre-snap and make a throw to whatever hole was just left open by a blitzer. If they hang back and play the pass, he’ll either audible and let his improving running game gash the Jets or take his time and wait for his receivers to find the holes in NY’s zone. He’s got their number.

The Jets made way too many mistakes to even keep this close. A red zone pick from Sanchez, bad challenges/lack thereof from Rex Ryan and a defense that couldn’t even slow down Tom Brady all helped the Jets lose this one. A rematch of last year’s playoff drubbing, the Jets have picked up where they left off while the Bengals are crumbling. Mark Sanchez is coming of age this season, leading late comebacks in the past three contests. Where questions lie is on the defensive side of the ball, since the Jets are starting to give up points in bunches. As bad as the Bengals are, they can put up points when they feel like it. Okay, how lucky/good are these Jets? I can’t help but think they wouldn’t have been in the position for a game-winning drive if their talkative defense actually slowed down an opponent every once in a while. I said it. Their defense? (3-5) Cleveland Browns

As ugly as this game could be (and with these offenses, it could be VERY ugly), the pre-game shenanigans between Rex Ryan and his brother Rob (Browns defensive coordinator) has been extremely entertaining. After knocking off the Patriots and Saints, the Browns could make a name for themselves in the AFC, which isn't easy to do. If they knock off the Jets, we'll have to start taking them seriously. Despite Eric Mangini's mysterious nature, this is Colt McCoy's team from here on out. Anything else would be ridiculous.

As sad as this loss was, what hurts the Lions even more is the loss of Matthew Stafford... for the second time this season. As tough as Stafford seems, he just gets hurt far too often. He's in no way a bust, but he's one more shoulder problem away from being injury prone. For the Jets, Mark Sanchez is steadily improving each week, even without help from the running game. They've been lucky to get wins the past two games, but they need to improve their pass defense if they're going to keep up in the AFC.

A crappy offense against a crappy defense. A good offense versus a good defense. Those are the notes to take into today's game between two teams at the opposite ends of the spectrum. It was a costly loss for a Jets team that fell behind the Patriots in the division and who saw their offense fail to produce after featuring receiver Santonio Holmes. Rex Ryan should be nailing punter Steve Weatherford to the wall after he ran a fake punt at the line. They just looked off. Darelle Revis wasn't his usual lock-down self, which makes you wonder if the Jets made the right decision by putting him on the field with a sore hamstring. Now the Vikings are deep in a hole and staring up at the Packers and Bears. Mark Sanchez wasn't dynamic under center, but he avoided the big mistakes and made enough throws when they needed him to. If the Jets can get past all their off-the-field distractions and get a win, I'm avoiding every Jets interview this week.

There's no excuse for that.

(1-1) New York Jets 28
(1-1) New England Patriots 14

Man, now the Jets have a reason to talk a big game again. They shut down Randy Moss even after Darelle Revis left the game with a hamstring injury and made the Patriot defense look mediocre. Mark Sanchez played his best game as a pro, rebounding from the awful week one performance. It seems the AFC East isn't the Patriots' playground. On a personal note, I actually cheered for the Patriots in this one. I needed twelve showers.

ahan's system then we could have ourselves a fun one in DC. (1-0) New England Patriots at(0-1) New York Jets Okay, who else enjoyed the Jets getting the trash-talk kicked out of them last week? I loved it. Now they host the division rival Patriots who just dominated the similarly-styled Bengals in the first half of their opener. Tom Brady knows this Jets defense and will find Wes Welker when in trouble, but the match-up to watch is obviously corner Darrelle Revis on receiver Randy Moss. If Moss is to stay in NE or get a new contract in the offseason he needs to play big in games like these. If Revis isn't exclusively on Moss throughout the day, then you know his hamstring is bothering him significantly. Maybe that's why you should come to training camp? Oh, and if Mark Sanchez stinks for a second straight week the Jets have NO shot of beating the Pats. (1-0) Jacksonville Jaguars at

(1-0) Baltimore Ravens 10
(0-1) New York Jets 9

So I guess the Jets forgot to bring an offense with them this season. When you have twice as many penalty yards as passing yards, that's a problem. Mark Sanchez did not look like even an average NFL QB. Let's see how much talk we hear out of New York this week. Baltimore held tough despite multiple turnovers and found a way to win, which is what Super Bowl-hopeful teams do.

Monday night's opening game is going to be a slug-fest. Both defenses talk loud and hit hard, but there can be only one! (Sorry, Highlander on the brain. How often does that happen?) This game boils down to one fact: I trust Joe Flacco more than Mark Sanchez. Ravens win.

Brandon who? What am I talking about again?

New York Jets

After making it to the AFC championship game, the Jets are everyone's pick to make a run at greatness. In his second season, quarterback Mark Sanchez is hoping to prove all those pundits (as well as his loud-mouthed head coach) correct. GM Mike Tanenbaum has pulled out all the stops to improve the roster during the offseason, signing LaDainian Tomlinson, trading for Santonio Holmes and drafting Joe McKnight of USC. Shonn Greene is officially the lead back, but it's not known whether he can handle that amount of punishment. Braylon "Dropsies" Edwards gets open downfield but too often doesn't make the catch.

do I think will make it to the Super Bowl in Miami? Read on in this edition of the Opening Drive!

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts
2:00PM ET CBS

If the New York Jets weren't crazy enough already, just wait if they somehow manage to defeat Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. They will be insufferable for the two weeks heading into the Super Bowl, and I'm not even talking about the fans. That team is boisterous and confident thanks to their equally as cocky head coach Rex Ryan. All-Pro corner Darelle Revis will be locked against Reggie Wayne, leaving Dallas Clark for the Jet safeties or linebackers to handle. New York's defense should have no problems shutting down the Indy running game, so the pressure is on their secondary to cover Manning's complement of receivers. On the offensive side of the ball, Ryan must ensure rookie QB Mark Sanchez isn't put in dangerous situations. If all goes to plan the Jets will have 40-plus rushing attempts with Shonn Greene and Thomas Jones, keeping Sanchez somewhere in the 18-24 pass attempt range. Any more than that and the Jets cannot win.

It was an ugliest of games for the team in the prettiest of cities. After winning 11 straight games to finish the regular season, the San Diego Chargers came out with a resounding thud at home against the Jets on Sunday. Penalties, missed field goals and turnovers formed a perfect storm of suck for the Chargers and kept the Jets in the game until the final quarter where they took and held onto the lead to advance to the AFC championship game with a 17-14 victory.

After roughing up the Bengals, hopes are high in New York. Their Jets have the number one defense and number running game in the NFL, but Mark Sanchez is the key to the offense's success. His first step is not making mistakes, second is putting up points. Darelle Revis should have been the defensive player of the year, but he'll have his hands full with a probably match-up on the 6'5" Vincent Jackson.

The New York Jets suppressed the home team Cincinnati Bengals Saturday in a 24-14 victory, despite giving up 171 yards on the ground.

After being shut out last week, the Bengals took advantage of early field position to take a 7-0 lead off a Carson Palmer pass to Laveranues Coles in the endzone. From there it was all Jets. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez completed 12 of his 15 passes for 182 yards, including a well-called bootleg where he found tight end Dustin Keller for 45 yards and a score. Sanchez was backed-up by 164 combined yards on the ground from rookie back Shonn Greene and veteran Thomas Jones. Most importantly, Sanchez didn't turn the ball over.

(10-6) Cincinnati Bengals 0

So the Bengals quit halfway through this game. Let's just get that out of the way. However, they quit after being blown up by the Jets defense. Carson Palmer made solid throws, but his receivers did nothing to help with their numerous drops. Mark Sanchez wasn't asked to do much as the Jets ran the ball 57 times for over 250 yards. Next week (in another wildcard round rematch), the Bengals won't be sitting Cedric Benson and will be throwing everything at the rookie Sanchez.

For the second straight week, Rex Ryan's Jets could be the beneficiaries of an opponent resting their starters. While I'm sure Bengals players would love to show what they can do against the league's top defense, there's a strong likelihood that these two teams will play again next week if the Jets win. Carson Palmer should not be out there for more than a half. If Mark Sanchez doesn't throw four interceptions against an underrated Bengal secondary, the Jets get this win.

With the win, John Fox saved his job for one more year.

(8-7) New York Jets 29
(14-1) Indianapolis Colts 15

I've never seen anyone toss away perfection as nonchalantly as Jim Caldwell did on Sunday. The Colts head coached pulled Peyton Manning and other starters out of the game in the third quarter of a game they were winning, giving up on a 19-0 season. It was clear on the sidelines that Manning had no love for the decision as he watched Curtis Painter come in and turn the ball over twice, giving the Jets easy scores and the easy win. Shame on you Jim Caldwell. You owed it to Manning and those players to at least try for perfection. If you lost or were getting blown out, then rest your players. I can't possibly believe this strategy will pay off for the Colts because it hasn't worked for them before. Caldwell should know that.

Indianapolis signed a quarterback off their practice squad this week, a possible sign of Jim Caldwell's intentions to sit Peyton Manning at some point. The question is: when will he do it? When the Colts are up 30 in the third or at halftime no matter what? Meanwhile, the Jets sure hope he wears a baseball cap for most of the afternoon as their playoff lives are on the line. Keep an eye on the Darelle Revis / Reggie Wayne match-up on the outside. Don't you mess this up Caldwell... I want perfection. I think they keep it going. Colts in a close one.

Speaking of last Sunday night, how incredibly furious are the Patriots going to be? Since that win the Jets have gone completely south and are just trying to get keep pace with the 5-5 Dolphins. (3-4) Miami Dolphins 30
(4-4) New York Jets 25

I think the Jets need to talk a lot less and play a lot better. With Rex Ryan as their coach, they’ve become as talkative and self-aggrandizing as the Ravens, only without the years of solid play as credit. They started out great, but .500 is where most expected this team to hover for the season. In Miami, major props go to Tony Sparano for bringing his team around after some disappointing losses. They may not challenge for a wildcard spot, but they’ll spoil some post-season hopes.

(2-4) Miami Dolphins at (4-3) New York Jets

The Dolphins are certainly the best 2-4 team in the league. Unfortunately that doesn’t count for much in the NFL. After two consecutive victories, they lost a 21-point lead and eventually lost to the Saints by 12. Getting over that heartbreaker will prove much easier if they can sweep their green division rivals. If Rex Ryan hasn’t learned how his team should defend against Ronnie Brown and the Wildcat, it will be a long day at the Meadowlands. Mark Sanchez rebounded with a solid game against the Raiders, but what quarterback doesn’t? (Besides Donovan McNabb… that one time.)

After a great win, Oakland went back to being putrid. JaMarcus Russell threw two interceptions and fumbled in the first half; giving way to back-up Bruce Gradkowski’s getting some game action. For the Jets, it was a desperately needed victory. Dropping to 3-4 would not have been a happy event in the Big Apple. Mark Sanchez eating a hot dog on the bench was amusing enough though.

He’ll still be a good quarterback in the league, but right now he’s going to have some huge growing pains. On Monday night, the Jets will look to keep pace or pull ahead of the Patriots. The Dolphins just want to climb closer to .500. Mark Sanchez will need to rebound from a very rookie performance last weekend. He’s up against an underrated and pass-rush-happy Miami defense. The storyline for the Jets is simple. They have a rookie head coach in Rex Ryan and they’re starting a rookie quarterback in Mark Sanchez. When Shaun Hill out-duels Brett Favre, something is wrong in the world. Something is obviously wrong with the Jets also, who have lost two in a row since beating the Titans and becoming the belle of the AFC ball. The Jets only rushed 12 times total on Sunday, not allowing Thomas Jones to continue his Pro-Bowl caliber production. San Francisco has one three of their last four under Mike Singletary, who may have earned himself a job for 2009. I honestly didn't think the Jets could beat the Patriots and at the time undefeated Titans...back to back. But they proved me wrong. Brett Favre is playing great and the Broncos are 25th in pass defense this season. This has the makings of a 'light-em-up' type of game. Running back Leon Washington has also played good ball for the Jets during the winning streak. Broncos are 27th in run defense. What I'm trying to say is...the Jets could and should have a field day with the Broncos defense. Jets with a win could push their record to an impressive 9-3 in the AFC East division possibly giving them more cushion if the Patriots lose to the Steelers. I'll take the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets in this game.

its history.  Let’s get to the best of week twelve in this edition of the Final Drive!

New York Jets 34, Tennessee Titans 13

The balance of power has shifted in the AFC. The Jets are flying high on a five-game winning streak, the latest of which coming against the formerly undefeated Tennessee Titans. They jumped on the Titans early and never looked back as their defense shut down the opposing running game and picked off the nigh-unpick-able Kerry Collins. What remains to be seen is how each team will handle the outcome. There’s already unrest in Tennessee coming from running back Lendale White, who had only one carry in Sunday’s loss. It might be hard to believe, but the Titans could be in trouble come playoff time.

It’s week twelve in the NFL, and it’s previewed right here, right now.

New York Jets (7-3) at Tennessee Titans (10-0)

Giving the Titans their first loss of the season would go a long way in establishing the Jets as a heavy-hitter in the AFC and give them breathing room in a constricted AFC East race. Brett Favre may be given a lot of the credit for their turn-around, and he obviously deserves a portion of it. Here’s week eleven’s Final Drive!

New York Jets 34, New England 31

They didn’t necessarily establish authority over the Patriots, but Brett Favre and the Jets won which is all that matters. Thomas Jones had 30 carries for 104 yards, controlling the time of possession for New York. l the bye weeks out of the way, we’re in the stretch run to the playoffs! I love this game.

New York Jets (6-3) at New England Patriots (6-3)

The Jets and Patriots are meeting for the second time this season, but now the winner will occupy first place in the AFC East. The Jets aren’t the same team that fell to New England in week two. Brett Favre has an improved control of the offense, Thomas Jones is tearing up the turf, and the defense is in the top third of the league. Beating the Patriots in Gillette Stadium would confirm their legitimacy.

Week nine, in your grill!

New York Jets (4-3) at Buffalo Bills (5-2)

Coming off of a surprisingly tough game against the lowly Chiefs in which Brett Favre threw three interceptions, the Jets find themselves in position to make a statement against the division leading Bills. With a loss earlier this season to New England, Eric Mangini’s Jets can’t afford to suffer another division loss if they have any hopes of winning the AFC East. Favre has been inconsistent under center the past few weeks, so running back Thomas Jones will see plenty of action to take the pressure off of his quarterback.
