Odom

21 November 2008

Thank god for Vladimir Radmanovic and Lamar Odom. Vlad Rad hit 5 of 6 three pointers (finally). Where has that been all season? Odom played well too. Loved how he got into his groove and

Instead, Kobe missed two long jumpers (why not take it to the rim, force the fouls either way?), Odom missed two freethrows, and Fish missed a long jumper.

-The Lakeshow took a lot of long jumpers. Kobe did so because he was forcing his shots. Fish did so, because his left foot comes forward every time he shoots it, so even if his right foot is behind the 3 point line, his left foot is always just a little bit over which results in lots of long twos.

d have kept the passing going and kept the Lakers surge, that included 10 points each from Fish and Odom (Odom hitting both game-tying shots) in the fourth quarter—helping to lift a visibly hurting Byrant during a quarter that has usually been his to close.

The Lakers, despite their cough up in the Rose Garden, are starting to play really well. Odom and Vlad Rad are heating up at the right time.

Get excited Lakers fans, but don’t forget about the other players. Those MVP chants for #24 are great and all. But like KB’s learned this year, a team has more than one member in it.

8 March 2008

Kobe and Odom made a game of it but came up 8 points short. They then lost to the Spurs in a game which they crushed the defending champs in the first half, and then got mauled in the second. They lost to a full strength Dallas team. And their last loss pre-Gasol was against a full strength Detroit team with a 3 pointer at the buzzer by Prince (reminiscent of that Thomas 3 in game 6 of 05). So, it’s not like the Lakers were facing srubs. That’s four mighty good teams. Pre-trade Phoenix was number one in the West. Dallas was second to New Orleans in the Southwest. And the Spurs are and were and will be the Spurs.

Farmar will get better. Odom will have completed his most successful playing stretch of his career. Confidence booster.

And Kobe can play facilitator. The Lakers look so much better when he distributes. Kobe can close games like few others. He can also defend the opposing team’s best player. And when it’s necessary, he can carry the team for long stretches with his scoring ability.

Okay. So Odom airballed that last shot. Sure, Turiaf missed what turned out to be critical free throw. Yeah, Kobe turned the ball over a career high 11 times. But the Lakers went into The Palace, a place they haven’t won in over five years, and nearly beat the second (arguably) best team in the East without Bynum, Mihm, Ariza, or Walton. In fact, they had the game won needing only a rebound to secure the victory. Unfortunately, Tayshaun Prince got his shot off and hit the winning bucket.

Not bad for a dude who’s been playing behind Bynum and Odom and recently Kwame. The numbers also don’t take into account games like the one he had against Utah. In only 11 minutes, Turiaf had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks.

11 January 2008

Just ask Suns, Jazz and Hornets fans. Kobe is sharing. D-Fish is leading. Odom is balling. So why, oh why am I saying to keep the $9 million, bust-of-a-draft-pick, injury-prone, stone-handed, noose named Kwame Brown?

And they played miserably too. Kobe shot a putrid 6 for 25. Odom added a 6 for 17 night. Fish was 4 for 10 (though he did have that crazy last second shot at the end of the first half). And Bynum played only 22 minutes and fouled out.

21 December 2007

Kobe had three. Fish 18, Odom 19, and Bynum, 17.

So hats off. Really.

If I was going to pick a player to carry my team for 47 minutes, I’d have to give the edge to Bron Bron. He passes more than Kobe getting teammates more involved (although, I believe this to be more of a standard response due to the higher number of assists he tallies than real factual evidence. I mean, if you watch him, he dominates the ball more than Kobe does), he rebounds better, he blocks shots better, and he can drop 30 plus in any and every game. So yeah, he gives you, on average, more than Kobe gives you. He’s a triple double threat each and every night.
