Phil Jackson

e league.

The key to beating the Celtics defense is ball movement and hitting outside shots. Phil Jackson's triangle offense seems to be the perfect approach to beating Celtics' defensive scheme because the Lakers have the most efficient and balanced offense in the league.

I have to wonder how Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson (or Phillip, as former one-time Laker Isaiah Rider once called him) is handling this. Jackson whines about NBA officiating the way the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield whined about getting no respect or, for a better example, the way billionaire Warren Buffett might whine about having to pay a 50-cent overdue fee on a library book. You remember: if a defender got within the same area code of Michael Jordan, he was called for a foul. If Jordan fouled while on defense, at worst an offensive charge would be called. When the referees did call fouls on Jordan, Jackson would gripe. He also griped when the referees actually called fouls on former Laker Shaquille O'Neal and current Laker Kobe Bryant.

Bryant got called for three personal fouls in this game, something sure to anger Lakers head coach Phil Jackson enough to make him tear in half a copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Most likely, Lakers coach Phil Jackson will make the first move and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will counter.

Jackson is notorious for throwing curveballs in Game 1.

In 1998 when the Chicago Bulls faced the Indiana Pacers in the conference finals, Jackson had 6-8 forward Scottie Pippen guard 6-1 poing guard Mark Jackson in Game 1. Pippen's length and quickness bothered Jackson so much the Pacers were unable to run their normal offense the whole series. The Bulls won in seven.

On a quick side note, during the beginning of the press conference, Phil Jackson had this to say about his star guard: “Let me tell you that I don’t know anyone who deserves it more, who’s ever deserved this trophy more, anybody who has ever worked this hard to accomplish what he’s accomplished in this game as Kobe has.”

O'Neal's problem is that he comes from the Phil Jackson School of Thought when it comes to fouls. It's only a foul if he thinks it's a foul. If the officials call him for more than four in a ga

The “Space Cadet” as he was so lovingly deemed by Phil Jackson last year, has seemed to come back down to earth. I’ve always liked his game in spite of that dumb look he always seems to have no matter the situation. He can pass, and is a willing passer. He can board a bit (as evidenced by his career high 14 boards against Sacramento). He’s even shored up that non-existent defense, working to stay in front of his man and usually getting a hand in his opponent’s face.

and has become deadly efficient.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see how Phil Jackson manages the inevitable working back into the rotation of Bynum. This could have serious ramifications on Odom’s sudden surge. It’s obvious that Bynum will be a huge part in shoring up the Lakers weak interior defense, but I wonder at what cost? The Lakers need Odom to be on his game. They need everyone to be firing on all cylinders in order to emerge from the crowded west.

Later, the feuds with Kobe Bryant were quite depressing. The year that the team lost both Phil Jackson and Shaquille O’Neal was one of the low points in the team’s history. I remember feeling very pessimistic about the future… Well,

He's given Phil Jackson headaches. Given MJ head trauma. He's being way overpaid at 9 million, and as tempting as it would be for the Lakers to dump that salary, I'm saying DO NOT. Not under any circumstance. Not for J Kidd. Not for anybody not named Lebron, Dwight, or Chris Paul. Obviously those guys won't be offered, so bottom line...DON'T TRADE HIM.

No one seems that excited about Phil Jackson anymore and the team is more of a tourist attraction now. “Real” fans have a tough time getting decent tickets to the games since they are a place for celebrities and wanna-bes to be seen as part of the fake L.A. scene.  (Fake L.A. scene as in the one that the transplants come here and try to make, not the one that really exists!) Only one of them, well actually two are real Los Angeles Lakers fans.

After things blew over and he started bad-mouthing Shaquille O’Neal and Phil Jackson my attitude toward him was tainted further. This is not endemic to Los Angeles either; other players have made mockeries of the teams that pay them millions. Now don’t get me wrong – I can totally appreciate trying to get the most salary from your employer. I am also a staunch proponent to speaking up when you think something is wrong. But honestly, some of these NBA divas go too far! I guess when I hear complaints about one of the best centers to ever play the game and a hall of fame caliber coach; I have to scratch my head.
