Thankfully they’re not playing the Patriots again. Instead Rex Ryan has to gameplan to contain Tim Tebow and the triple-option and somehow get Mark Sanchez to not suck. After being drafted in 2009, Sanchez has improved incrementally each season, but I think he’s just about as his ceiling, which clearly isn’t very high. His “great” games just aren’t that good and his “bad” games can be downright putrid. Coming off such a low, the Jets could rebound to show their colors or lay down and accept their lot.

fense no room for error with under a minute left to go thanks to poor defensive clock management by Rex Ryan. All they had to do was keep the return under control. FAIL. Still, I have to give credit to Mark Sanchez for overcoming a horrendous first half, closing out the game with three on-target passes to set up the field goal. Oh well, now the Jets can head to New England to get their collective taints kicked in by the Patriots.

Now he faces a Rex Ryan defense that he has taken apart in every meaningful game in which he’s faced them. Even without his Anthony Gonzalez, Austin Collie or go-to guy Dallas Clark, Manning has enough weapons in the arsenal to take advantage of a Jet defense that just can’t manufacture the pressure to get him off his game. If they blitz, he’ll read it pre-snap and make a throw to whatever hole was just left open by a blitzer. If they hang back and play the pass, he’ll either audible and let his improving running game gash the Jets or take his time and wait for his receivers to find the holes in NY’s zone. He’s got their number.

is leather-skinned scalpel, switching to surgical mode in a 26 of 39, 377 yard performance. 

Rex Ryan's defense did exactly what they wanted to, which was keep Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne under wraps. Wayne only snagged three balls for 55 yards and Clark caught four for 35 and a fourth quarter TD. What they couldn't account for was the man-sized games of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, who each went over 100 yards receiving. Each of Garcon's 11 receptions were critical and helped keep Colt drives alive. Collie's 46-yard grab set up the second of Indy's scores, keeping it close before halftime. When the break ended, it was all Manning. Well, mostly anyway...

That team is boisterous and confident thanks to their equally as cocky head coach Rex Ryan. All-Pro corner Darelle Revis will be locked against Reggie Wayne, leaving Dallas Clark for the Jet safeties or linebackers to handle. New York's defense should have no problems shutting down the Indy running game, so the pressure is on their secondary to cover Manning's complement of receivers. On the offensive side of the ball, Ryan must ensure rookie QB Mark Sanchez isn't put in dangerous situations. If all goes to plan the Jets will have 40-plus rushing attempts with Shonn Greene and Thomas Jones, keeping Sanchez somewhere in the 18-24 pass attempt range. Any more than that and the Jets cannot win.

Credit Rex Ryan’s Jets for sticking to their game plan and not allowing San Diego to play their style of football, but San Diego did all they could to lose this game. Stupid penalties like Vincent Jackson kicking the Jets' challenge flag or Rivers' back-to-back interceptions proved this team wasn't ready. Nate Kaeding's three missed field goals were as many as he missed all season and dropped his accuracy to a putrid 3 for 9 at home in the playoffs. If the AFC's Pro Bowl kicker can't be clutch in post-season play, who can? (I might cut him from the team, but who would be a better solution?)

It wasn't exactly how he'd like it to happen, but Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan will sure take it. The New York Jets suppressed the home team Cincinnati Bengals Saturday in a 24-14 victory, despite giving up 171 yards on the ground.

With Rex Ryan as their coach, they’ve become as talkative and self-aggrandizing as the Ravens, only without the years of solid play as credit. They started out great, but .500 is where most expected this team to hover for the season. In Miami, major props go to Tony Sparano for bringing his team around after some disappointing losses. They may not challenge for a wildcard spot, but they’ll spoil some post-season hopes.

If they fall in Oakland, the Rex Ryan honeymoon will officially be over. For the Raiders, the rest of this season will be spent deciding if JaMarcus Russell is their quarterback of the future. Hasn’t looked like it to me. Oh Oakland, keep on suckin’!

Does it get any better? New York is riding high on the back of Rex Ryan’s immense swagger and his blitz-crazy defense. They face off against Drew Brees and the high-powered Saints, who proved last week they have a defense of their own. The Jets can’t keep up with the Saints on the scoreboard, so their defense will need to keep it close. If the Saints get above 24 points, you can almost lock in a win.
