Robbie Gould

11 December 2011

Devin Hester’s 26 yard punt return to Denver’s 42 yard line set-up Robbie Gould’s record-setting 57-yard field goal to start the fourth quarter put the Bears up two scores, a key when facing the King of Comebacks. They recovered a high-bouncing onside kick with just over two minutes to go which looked to have all –but sealed the game. But it was not to be.

y, but Maynard was slipping in recent years, so I don’t forsee a considerable drop-off.  Robbie Gould is back at kicker, but with Podlesh as his new holder we might see a few more misses than we’re accustomed to from Robbie.

strength of the Bears thanks to coach Dave Toub, this unit is relatively unchanged from last year. Robbie Gould is one of the most accurate kickers in the game and has recently shown that he can occasionally be called on to kick those 50+ field goals that Smith never used to trust him with. Brad Maynard returns as the team's punter, with Patrick Mannelly snapping it from long range. Maynard's always one of the better punters in the NFL, usually with great length and a solid net. Johnny Knox and Danieal Manning are the team's kick returners, both with ability to go the distance. Manning excels at kick returns because of his straight-forward speed and tackle-breaking skills. After going two seasons without a special teams score, Devin Hester's punt return abilities haven't been showcased. Hester has to return to his 2007 form if this Bears team wants to reach the top of the NFC North.

d of tossing red zone picks, Cutler played smart and checked down to his receivers, setting up four Robbie Gould field goals. Thing about field goals is, a touchdown's better than two of them. That simple math led to the demise of Lovie Smith's team and the deflation of their playoff hopes as they fall to 4-6.

It wasn’t pretty, but I’ll take it. The Bears put down the Cleveland Browns by a final score of 30-6 Sunday at Soldier Field. While a 24-point win against a number of other teams would have been memorable, that margin wasn’t enough for Bears fans who wanted to see domination like they saw in Cincinnati. Instead, they saw Lovie Smith’s squad do little more than take advantage of Cleveland’s never-ending mistakes.

I found a way to write this story.

After getting great field position on the opening drive, Robbie Gould missed a field goal, giving the Seahawks good field position of their own. Driving the ball down the field, back-up QB Seneca Wallace dropped the ball off to running back Julius Jones who broke two Bear tackles en route to a 39-yard touchdown. Two Olindo Mare field goals put Seattle up 13-0 with five minutes left in the first half.

Critics be silenced! The Chicago Bears have defeated the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers!

A week after his less-than-stellar outing against the Green Bay Packers, Jay Cutler came home to Chicago and proved to be worth the king’s ransom that was paid for his services. Though there is certainly room for improvement, this is a win the Bears desperately needed.

ay Cutler took the field and handed off to back-up running back Kevin Jones six times, leading to a Robbie Gould field goal. Matt Forte didn't even play. After those first seven plays, it was scrub time.

Well, they’re alive for another week. They needed two clutch Robbie Gould field goals in a comeback effort to survive, but the Chicago Bears defeated the New Orleans Saints in overtime last Thursday night. It was by no means a pretty victory, but when you’re in the midst of a playoff race, winning is the only thing that matters.
