Roddy White

18 October 2009

With Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez on the field along with Turner, the Falcons have explosive weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Getting to Ryan early and often will be paramount. Zack Bowman have better speed than Charles Tillman, so he should be opposite White for most of the game unless he struggles. Gonzalez might have been the best pick-up of the offseason, so don't be surprised if he has a big day against a linebacking corps missing Brian Urlacher and Hunter Hillenmeyer.

The Bears defense never figured out how to stop receiver Roddy White, despite putting Atlanta in obvious passing situations where White would be the natural first option for Ryan. This has been the largest issue during the Lovie Smith regime. Too often does the opponent’s number one passing option have a huge day against the Bears’ rarely adjusting cover two defense. It shows stubbornness on the part of the coaches to refuse to adjust to what the opposing offense is doing, no matter how unsuccessful they are in defending it.

Rookie quarterback Matt Ryan is making enough plays to win, finding receiver Roddy White with great effect. Atlanta hungers for respect throughout the league and plays fast and aggressive on offense as well as defense. t playmaker for this team.

There isn’t a lot of talent at the receiving positions. Roddy White had a decent year last season and he will be the number one guy this year for the team. Joe Horn is a very talented wide receiver, but his career is winding down. I don’t see him being much of a factor this year if at all. The Falcons are going to have to work on getting more targets for their young quarterback. He can’t be great if he doesn’t have anyone to throw it to. They did draft Harry Douglas out of Louisville, but the hopes that he can be a top playmaker for this team right away are very low. They also lost Alge Crumpler at tight end. He was a very vital part to this team during the Michael Vick era, but this is a new era now. His precence will be missed for a little while, but eventually it will pass. He is a great tight end, but the Falcons need to focus on other positions right now. A Tight End will come in the future.
