Roy Oswalt

12 April 2009

ouston Astros pitchers will file a lawsuit against the hitters on the team for lack of run support. Roy Oswalt and Wandy Rodriguez have both pitched good games twice. Their combined record: 0-3 and a no-decision.

Roy Oswalt is now 20-1 in 24 career starts against the Cincinnati Reds, courtesy of his rust-shaking win against the Reds. The Houston Astros won 5-4, perhaps Oswalt's only blight was a third-inning two-out grand slam by Adam Dunn (who got his 30th home run on the season). Astros third baseman Geoff Blum answered in the bottom of the third with a two-out home run of his own--this one a two-run shot that turned out to be the go-ahead runs for Houston.

Rather, the old version of Astros ace Roy Oswalt. You know, the guy who could get guys out and make it look easy.

Against the Milwaukee Brewers, a team that can hit the ball, Oswalt was near flawless. In seven innings, he allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out 10 and yielded no walks. His sole run was a home run. Oswalt is now 5-6 on the season with an ERA of 5.06

uo;s six-game winning streak.

Houston used six pitchers today, and that number bothers me. Roy Oswalt pitched six innings, yielding five hits, three runs, three BBs and five K’s. He did not get a decision.

Starter Roy Oswalt earned his second win against three losses on the season, pitching seven innings and allowing six hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts. He did allow two home runs, though. Relievers Tim Byrdak and Oscar Villarreal combined for two innings, two runs, a walk and one strikeout and, most important of all, no runs and no four-baggers.

Ahh, Roy Oswalt is back.

Roy O, as Astros fans affectionately call him, notched his first win of the season. against the Philadelphia Phillies last night, Oswalt (1-3) threw seven innings and gave up five hits and only one earned run. He walked two and struck out three as the Astros (6-9) edged out the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1.

d what turned out to be the winning run to be safe at first.

Pitching today for Houston is Roy Oswalt. Roy O is 0-3, which seems almost like a belated April Fool’s Day joke. I like to think he’s just off to a rough start and will soon regain his groove.

ginton, Carlos Lee and Hunter Pence lead this very balanced line-up.  The key is the health of Roy Oswalt, as it always is.  This rotation is very thin but if Roy can stay healthy and be a CY Young candidate that will go a long way to helping keep things together.  Wandy Rodriguez, Brandon Backe and Woody Williams just are not going to scare people or cut it as the rest of the rotation.  This team needs to attempt to make a move to help the rotation.  The bullpen is also pretty thin but has a very good closer in Jose Valverde.  I didn’t think this team had anything but today when I looked at the roster the talent on this team surprised me.  I am just telling you, in a very bad division this team, granted they stay healthy, could make some noise.
