This was looking like a genius “Trap of the Week” pick for about 2 ½ quarters until San Francisco got a touchdown on the board. Seattle made a late push, but they couldn’t get past the superior team. Oh man. This Eagles season has been absolutely freaking delightful. And it could all come crashing down to a violent and decisive ending if they lose tonight. Vince Young has the helm for a third straight week, but he’ll be missing wide receiver Jeremy Maclin again. So Andy Reid, I have a suggestion for you. One that should save you from all the ungodly hours you’re rumored to be putting in lately. Hand the f###ing ball off to LeSean Mccoy. (It he can carry it, that is. Kinda injured.) He’s really good and you might be able to control the ball and keep your own craptastic defense off the field. Just a thought.

The final division preview starts now!Seattle Seahawks

After winning the division with a super-crappy record, the Seattle Seahawks stunned the Saints, advancing past the Wildcard round. This year will not be a repeat of that performance. Tarvaris Jackson takes over at quarterback, already putting the Seahawks in a hole. Whether he’s familiar with Darell Bevel l’s offense or not, Jackson is not an NFL-level QB. He’s still got Sidney Rice to throw to, taking advantage of Rice’s wide catching radius. After adding Rice, the Seattle receivers are deep, with Mike Williams and Golden Tate amongst the crop. Seattle’s young offensive line isn’t quite ready to become an elite unit, but they’ll show flashes thanks to new line coach Tom Cable and a left side of Russell Okung and Robert Gallery. The Seahawk defense is… decent. Signing defensive tackle Brandon Mebane was a great move, giving them a run-stuffer up the middle. Behind the line, the linebackers are alright and the secondary is so-so aside from safety Earl Thomas, whose ball-hawking has to pick up in his second year.

The Negative

Seattle Seahawks

As much as I don’t believe you need a flashy draft to have good draft, the Seahawks have a problem. Any draft that leaves you with Charlie Whitehurst as your locked-in starting QB is a bad draft. Andy Dalton was there for the taking and Seattle simply passed him over. While I like the positions they aimed at (offensive line, secondary), their player selection left much to be desired. Taking James Carpenter in the first round was a blunder. Though to be fair, it sucks that a 7-9 team is drafting at the 25th spot, but that’s what happens when you win a crappy division and get to the playoffs. New England Patriots

Here’s the story behind the first round of the NFL playoffs.(8-9) Seattle Seahawks 41
(11-6) New Orleans Saints 36

Okay… WHAT? Now, I will take full credit for thinking this would be a close game, but nowhere did I think the lowly Seahawks would be able to oust the defending champs, home field advantage or not. Matt Hasselbeck had a phenomenal afternoon, lighting up the Saints secondary, which was without starting safety Malcolm Jenkins. I put this loss squarely on New Orleans’ defense, which just never decided to show up. When Drew Brees and that offense drop 36 points, there’s no excuse for losing, especially to a 7-9 squad. Still, the Seahawks went out and played a great game in front of their home crowd and proved it doesn’t matter what your record is when the postseason begins. A 7-9 team beat the defending Super Bowl champs. The Seahawks belonged there. Credit Pete Carroll with getting his boys ready and believing in the aging Hasselbeck.

(11-5) New Orleans Saints at
(7-9) Seattle SeahawksThe Breakdown:

Okay, we’ve heard all the banter and ridicule. Yes, Seattle is a sub .500 team that won a crap division to get into the playoffs. Now that they’re here, they have a game to play. Let’s focus on that, shall we? At first glance this seems like an easy win for the Saints, hence their overwhelming odds. Still, without running backs Chris Ivory or Pierre Thomas, this game could be closer than you’d think. Drew Brees has to avoid the costly turnovers, especially on the road at Qwest Field where you can’t give the crowd a reason to get into it. The Saints have to put multiple touchdowns up early and take the fans out of the equation. To do that they have to go to the air early and often against a weak Seahawk secondary that won’t be able to keep track of Brees’ countless targets (which might include a fresh off of surgery Marques Colston). Someone will be open and Brees has to get them the ball. It’s that simple.

We have a feel good story on the winning side of this one and a Jekyl and Hyde tale on the other. St. Louis rallied behind Sam Bradford and an injured Steven Jackson to win their second straight game. What's even more impressive is the way they completely shut down Seattle's offense while only creating one turnover. Pete Carroll's Seahawks are perfect at home and winless on the road, a sign of a young team. With three NFC West teams at 2-2, it's all up for grabs still.

As bad as Seattle has been on the road the past few years, this is a game they should win. Still, the Rams aren't a locked-in blow-out anymore now that Sam Bradford is at quarterback. If Seattle can get to 3-1, they can run the NFC West for the rest of the year by simply going .500. These early wins could make all the difference in getting to the playoffs.

San Diego had plenty of chances to get back into this contest, much as they did versus Kansas City in week one.  Unfortunately, their special teams unit let them down by allowing TWO return touchdowns to Leon Washington. How good does that trade look for the Seahawks now? At 2-1, the Seahawks have two solid wins on their resume and look to have the talent to compete in this weak division.

Can Pete Carroll's 'Hawks build off of the spanking they handed out to the Niners last week, who by the way are looking at 0-2 after the play the Saints? If you go back and look at the stats, Seattle didn't overpower the Niners, they just didn't make mistakes and played smart fundamental football. Denver's pass defense is suspect (as always, it seems), but at least Kyle Orton looked in control of this offense. For a team thought to run rampant over the NFC West, the Niners could not have had a worse start. Alex Smith looked like his sucky self, tossing two picks amidst the two sacks and 11 QB hits he took. Frank Gore was shut down by a young Seahawk defense that wasn't perceived to be overly physical. With his group of young receivers and solid offensive line, Matt Hasselbeck just needs to find the open target. That he can do. It was a great first win for Pete Carroll's team.

With everyone (including me) picking the Niners to take this defense without much resistance, the Seahawks have an early opportunity to change some minds if they can win at home on Sunday. Pete Carroll's team is talked about as having more finesse than toughness, so going out and beating the tough-as-nails Singletary's squad would be a huge step for his renovated 'Hawks. It'll be another rough year in St. Louis.

Seattle Seahawks

After one year on the job, Jim Mora was fired as head coach of the Seahawks, giving way to former USC head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll, years removed from his last NFL gig, has brought an energy to excitement to the northwestern franchise and upgraded Matt Hasselbeck's arsenal. He traded for Jets RB Leon Washington, making for a productive trio partnered with Julius Jones and Justin Forsett. They drafted Notre Dame wide-out Golden Tate to go alongside T.J. Houshmandzadeh. What's even more surprising is that Mike Williams (former USC receiver and NFL bust) looks like he's going to actually earn a spot on the roster. Tight end John Carlson isn't talked about enough and will see a lot of endzone looks from Hasselbeck. Sixth overall pick Russell Okung will anchor the offensive line for years from the left tackle position and will benefit greatly from line coach Alex Gibbs' renowned tutelage. Carroll also brought Jeremy Bates along to head up the offense, so expect some points on the board.

There were good aspects of the team and of course there were bad aspects of the team. Losing fullback Mack Strong to injury and eventually retirement hurt this team a lot. He paved a lot of holes for running backs in Seattle. Star running back Shaun Alexander seemed to lose his game last season, he just never seemed to do something great.
