Shaq

9 October 2008

On Saturday night, the Phoenix Suns will face the Denver Nuggets outside at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden (home to Pacific Life Open--one of the major events on the men's and women's pro tours) in a pre-season match-up. This is only the second time in NBA's history that a game will be played outdoors. The first being a 1972 preseason game where the Suns defeated the Bucks in San Juan, Puerto Rico at a baseball stadium.

Can’t hate on a man like that. In fact, might have to retract my Shaq-lite comments a bit. Although, Shaq has been known for his generosity.

But, hoops-wise, one thing I didn’t hear him talk about is his desire to be like Reggie Evans. If Amare doesn’t learn to box out, it doesn’t matter what else he does or tries to do. The defense will suffer.

The first was in 2000-01 when Shaq actually found himself on the court 74 times. The second time is in 2004 when the Lakers were delivered the Jazz’s top free throw shooter (in terms of bulk) in the Mailman. Other than that, the Jazz have annually been one of the top (in terms of bulk) free throw shooting teams in the league each and every year.

That’s how you make teams pay for fouling you. Ice cold blood. Red hot stroke. Anti-Shaq (I couldn’t resist).

It was eleven years ago during the 1997 conference semifinals when Kobe faced the Jazz in his first meaningful playoff game, one that I will always remember because he air-balled four shots to end the Lakers playoff hopes that year.

oyed with the happy-go-lucky crybaby D’Antoni probably going elsewhere and the burden that is Shaq sits clogging up all that freeflowing Nashty-ness.

My cousin guarantees me that the Suns won’t be trading Steve Nash and that they will be fine with an offseason of working together. I tried to remind him of

ember hearing Kobe haters question what Iverson could have done if he had been the one to play with Shaq instead of Bryant. Well, this would give him his shot. Sure, Shaq’s past his prime, but Amare’s the next big thing. This doesn’t fix the Suns’ defensive shortcomings, but as long as they have

I’ve also not hidden my disdain for Shaq, in this blog, in my myspace blog and on the website I am trying to put up where he tops the list of players I’ve relegated to the SmushPot.

Reading the post-Game 1 comments of Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O'Neal, it's hard to believe he has a Master's Degree from Louisiana State University. It's also hard to believe that he calls himself The Big Aristotle.

They usually are video montages of NBA players, reading to kids, handing out presents, helping build walls or running basketball camps. NBA Cares is the League's social responsibility initiative where teams and players have committed millions of hours of time and dollars to serving the community.

square off against the Phoenix Suns tomorrow night, everyone will get their first peak at the newly Shaquillized original run-n-gun team.

I have to admit, karma is a foul, unsavory witch. Kobe complained this offseason. Wanted to be moved. Was frustrated with his team mates. Then  didn’t get his way. He came into this season fired up and ready to roll, played his heart out like he always does. The Lakers got off to great start before karma kicked out her leg and tripped up the Lakeshow by sending Bynum to the injured reserve for at least 2 months.

If I were an NBA GM, I wouldn’t do the Shaq trade. No way. No how. The Suns just don’t know what they are getting into. Sure, I can’t hate on Shaq too much. He did help bring 3 championships to the Lakers, but the Suns don’t realize the baggage (and there’s a ton) that comes with the Big Diesel.

When you got big profile names like Dwayne Wade and Shaq on your squad you would never imagine this could happen to them, but it is. Many teams that the Heat should be able to beat they just can't. Injuries has really slowed this club down and

Tyson Chandler grabbed 18 boards and chipped in 14 points to Amare's 16 and 8 boards. Shaq had his best game of December with 18, 11 and 5 assists, and Al Jefferson dropped a measly 32 on STAT.  Perhaps they're calling him STAT because anyone can put up so many against him. On the other side, Bynum has helped the Lakers to wins in 9 of their last 12. He's averaging for the month of December, 15 points, 10 boards, 2 assists and 3 blocks while shooting a scalding 67.6 percent.
