Torry Holt

If they let Torry Holt sign with the Patriots, you know they don't care about improving that position. I guess Holt's good enough for Bill Belichick but not Lovie Smith? Sure thing Lovie, I trust you. Idiot.

Now Angelo should take a closer look at recently released Torry Holt and gauge his interest in joining the new-look Bears. He will surely use his second round selection in the upcoming draft on a receiver and the compensatory pick on an offensive lineman. Second year receiver Earl Bennett (also Chris Williams) was Cutler’s teammate at Vanderbilt and enjoyed tremendous success alongside the talented QB. Matt Forte will take pressure off Cutler early on, allowing him to find cohesiveness with his wide-outs. Greg Olsen will have a break-out season with Cutler. Count on it.

talent on offense that features the accurate Marc Bulger at quarterback, Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Torry Holt, and the punishing Steven Jackson at running back. Taking the Rams offense lightly would be a foolish mistake. Corner Charles Tillman will most likely be matched up with Holt for the bulk of the game, but he’s not the focus in the secondary. Nathan Vasher has looked timid in his attempts to tackle the ball-carrier, so much so that writers around Chicago are calling for his benching. Back-up corner Corey Graham is the better corner for run coverage, and his tackling skills are above average. If Vasher continues to underperform, Smith shouldn’t waste time in showing him the bench for a stretch of time. It won’t fix all of the defense’s issues, but it could be a step in the right direction.

The wide receiver position is old for the Rams. Torry Holt is still one of the best wide outs in the league, but he’s winding down his career and he’s lost a step over the years. I’ve never known Drew Bennett to be the most amazing playmaker in the league, so I don’t see how much he can possibly help. Dante Hall is another old veteran, who is on the backside of his career. So what we are left with overall is a wide out crew that is either old or untalented. The Rams did go out and draft a couple of young wide out stand outs. Donnie Avery out of Houston and Keenan Burton out of Kentucky. They bring youth to an old team, but it may be a while before these rookie stars produce NFL numbers.
