Vincent Jackson

20 November 2011

After giving up yardage in buckets to Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson, Chicago’s defense clamped down in the final frame. Philip Rivers definitely helped out with two horribly thrown balls. The first went to Major Wright on a series where the Chargers looked primed to get back in it. Rivers decided to throw it deep into triple coverage in the endzone, but Wright stepped in front for his third pick in his last three games.

This year may prove difficult to take that step, as deep threat Vincent Jackson is holding out and trying to work out a trade someplace else. If he's not on the team, expect that 5th ranked pass offense to lag slightly. Legedu Naanee and Malcolm Floyd are dependable receivers, but they can't make the same plays Jackson has. Running back Ryan Matthews seems prepared to make an immediate impact, partnered with Darren Sproles. Experimenting with Sproles as a featured back was a bad idea, one that Matthews' presence will correct. Antonio Gates is still the most explosive tight end in the league and will put up another monster season. If left tackle Marcus McNeill continues his holdout, the offensive line will have a hard time protecting Rivers long enough to throw a deep ball.

fensive player of the year, but he'll have his hands full with a probably match-up on the 6'5" Vincent Jackson.

It seems as if every year is San Diego's year. With 11 straight wins to close out the regular season, I think they're as ready as they've ever been to take the next step. Norv Turner is an underrated coach with an underrated quarterback in Philip Rivers. Their explosiveness on offense makes up for their better-than-average defense.

Chambers is a star and having playmakers is the only way for an offense to succeed. Vincent Jackson also emerged last year as a big time playmaker. He brings a great compliment to Chambers and the other star receiver on the Charger’s staff, perhaps the #1 receiver on the team, Tight End Antonio Gates. Gates is a big, tough, athletic man who can really use his basketball background to get an advantage over his defenders. He can go up and get the ball and that is a great trait to have in a starting tight end. I also have a lot of faith in backup tight end Brandon Manumaleuna, who when called upon last year, made the plays. Anyone who can make plays when they are called on to do so, is a player worth having on any team. I’m sure there are a lot of teams that wish they could have a tight end like Manumaleuna.

the passing game with pro-bowl tight end Antonio Gates, Wide-Out Chris Chambers, and emerging star Vincent Jackson, Tomlinson will see the ball, but will have less carries then before.
-Coming off a bad knee injury that forced him to miss the AFC Championship Game last season.
