Why bring him back now? Paxson refers to the relationship between current coach Vinny Del Negro and Thomas from their playing days. (Yes, Del Negro is THAT young.) Hopefully Thomas’ stay will be more productive than his last, but he’s never been much more than a hit-man and a board-pounder. Jerome James was a mega-bust in New York, so if he’s healthy and contributes anything of note, that’s a bonus for Chicago. Anthony Robertson makes little to no difference in this deal.

I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed. How do the Bulls really justify their selection of Vinny Del Negro as head coach? Mike D'Antoni has an impressive record from his time in Phoenix. He, along with Steve Nash, brought that team up from the cellar of the NBA to one of its elite teams. Doug Collins had at least a variety of head coaching experiences and has a grasp on how he likes to run teams.
