Who am I?
I don't report on sports, I reflect on them. The connection between sports and the human spirit makes for some incredible stories. Examples of the underdog, defying all odds... achieving something no man has done before... to win when the whole world is against you. The Cinderella dream come true.
The emotional and spiritual bond between sports, teams, stars and their fans is the most palpable psychic experience there is. You can feel it, you can be touched by it, you can become a part of it, it is a part of you.
For me it really isn't whether you win or lose... its how you play the game that I enjoy most. Because when all things are equal it will be the desire, the commitment, the belief and the heart that will determine victory.

I Know a Celtic When I See One posted on 02/10/2008
It's been a closely watched season of careful observation but I'm sure now of what I've seen. I haven't seen it since about 1987 but there is no doubt about it now. After 20 years there are finally some genuine Celtics wearing the Celtic uniforms.
With the addition of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen along with some seasoned vets and promising young talent the nucleus of a bonfide Celtic team with actual Celtic type players has been created.
Being born in Boston and having been raised a Celtic fan I'm very particular about calling a player a Celtic. I grew up watching Red, listening to Johnny and believing in the philosophy behind "Celtic Pride".
Everything I needed to know about what it took to succeed in life was learned watching the Celtics win championship after championship. Leading the league in championships while rarely leading the league in any particular statistical catagory. While they ever had a scoring leader, in the end, they always had the winning score. Players came and went, but the championships kept coming.

Welcome to My Sportsworld! posted on 02/10/2008
I call myself the Sports Sage so that should give you a clue as to just how dumb I really am when it comes to actual sports knowledge. I watch sports because they are exciting, inspirational and free on TV. They happen in real time and have predictable commercials. Often we get to ooh and Ahhh at things that we will almost never be able to do while watching grown up people like us at play. Its a lot more fun than watching regular people like us work.
The phrase "The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat" was one I heard every week growing up watching the program "Wide World of Sports" The shows slogan always seemed to sum up what I enjoy about sports the most.
My sports memeories and moments are often ones that recall how the game was played and by who more than who won. I can have no real interest in a particular sports in general, but when the two best teams or stars from any sport come together for championship battles I can get swept up if the competition is great.
